  1. I am now thinking about the Memoria Press Kindergarten program. I see they include some enrichment activities but what if I wanted to add more art? I am not very artistic but would like my daughter to do some little things. Is there a good art program for Kindergarten students? I guess I worry she will miss all the cutting, gluing, etc. that kids do in school. Silly, right?
  2. This does look nice. I would like to hear what you all think about it when you get it. Also, if you have the reading portion, what do you think about it? I may consider this for my daughter. I think it will be between this and My Father's World. The Memoria Press kit looks really good but I would like to add a few hands on things but not too many, YKWIM?
  3. Thanks for all the replies so far. I'm going to be taking care of my parents in a few months. They're moving to Florida and we will live in the main house with them in the guest house. I will be doing cooking, cleaning as well as taking them to see the doctor, shopping, etc. My time will be limited in being able to plan but don't want to cheat my daughter out of the neat hands on things like I did with my sons. Of course I don't want to overload on activities either. Thanks again!
  4. Oh sorry! I'm looking for something for K right now. I know Ambleside doesn't suggest you start until age 6 though. I have used a couple of older SL levels for my sons but never anything below grade 5, which I added a lot of hands on for them. I really am not sure I want to do that at the lower levels right now. We also used SOTW 1 & 2. I like those but my dd isn't ready for that yet.
  5. I seem to be drawn to aspects of each but am not sold completely on any of them. I do like some hands-on but not too much, YKWIM?
  6. I'm back to thinking about this for my dd for Kindergarten and beyond. I do have some questions. 1 - Is the phonics/reading complete or do I need to add other things? 2 - Is it a nice mix of hands-on and reading/writing or is it overly one way or the other? 3 - Are most activities done with household items or do you have to purchase a lot of additional items? 4 - Are most of the books you need found at the library or do you have to purchase? Are there other options in case you can't find your first choice? 5 - The K program tells you to introduce a subject with an article from an encyclopedia. Does that work or have you found other ways? Does the encyclopedia hold your child's attention?
  7. I'm torn between these: Le Van Toy Belle castle with the Papo princess & fairy figures. http://www.dianatoystore.com/tv640.html Or the Playmobil castle. http://store.playmobilusa.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-US-Site/en_US/Product-Show?pid=4250&cgid=Maerchenschloss My daughter will be 4 on January 4th and I'm a little afraid of all the tiny Playmobil pieces. I'm not afraid she'll eat them or anything but that they may get lost. I love the Playmobil castle and my sons always enjoyed their stuff but I wonder if a 4 year old is a little too young for it. I also love the idea of the wood castle with the music box inside. It plays the Nutcracker Suite. It seems like a classic toy. Which one would you get for a 4 year old?
  8. I'm looking for a nice wood dollhouse too. I really don't like the ones that are printed to look like they have paintings, furniture, etc.
  9. Do any of you have the townhouse? I know it isn't very big but I like that is has lights. I know the large one has lights too but that is quite a bit of $$.
  10. We allowed my youngest son to go to public school full time last fall, the 2008-09 school year. He was 15 and a 10th grader though. Our middle son is in his senior year at home. I wouldn't allow a young child to make that decision.
  11. I did in 1993 after the birth of my 3rd son. No problems.
  12. I'm glad so many of you love them. I think this is what dd will get for Christmas. I'm going to go check them out at Learning Express today so I can see them in person. I'm sure I've seen them before but my sons would never have played with them so I never really looked closely.
  13. My daughter will turn 4 in early January. I'm looking for something for Christmas. I've been looking at dollhouses but she loves animals much more than dolls. Would this be good for her? Do you and your kids like these? Which house is your favorite?
  14. I have never had a child who can do everything with both hands. It is crazy! She can write, color, cut, etc. the same with both hands. She switches and even colors with both at the same time. :001_huh: So, should I just go with it or tell her to write with the same one each time? She will be 4 in January.
  15. I would like to know too. We have a local group and I'm trying to get information for next year. They seem to be slow getting back to me.
  16. Thanks! I will just get the student books. I thought the TM might be a waste.
  17. That does sound fun! I ordered this morning and the box should arrive Thursday so we can start right away. My dd is almost 4 and quite eager to learn.
  18. Oh thanks but I ordered the K kit this morning. I think my daughter will like the games, etc.
  19. Thanks! She is almost 4 and it will be several months before we're finished with R&S. I'm thinking by summer or fall. I don't have any experience with Horizons. Would I need a TM for K or just the workbooks?
