Wow, that is way higher than what is on the Toyota website.  Awesome

Yes!! We were prepared to be disappointed when they said 45-ish gallons per mile (or something like that) was normal. We've been ecstatic with how it's performed.

Granted, my DH doing everything possible to maximize our battery usage. No sudden stops, no fast accelerations, no going way over the speed limit, etc. All of those things are good practice anyway but they really help.

  2. We wash our dog's paws when she comes in and it helps tremendously. If it were me, I'd keep three sets of damp cloths and dry cloths by the door. I'd have the dogs come in one at a time and give them a quick body wipe down first, then wipe and dry their paws.

For the door, could you use a magnetic rod at the top and hang an inexpensive curtain over the window? You could tie it partially open during the day so the dog could see out.

    You are very hospitable. ❤️

  3. This probably doesn't count, but I've been having fun taking dirty / old Barbie and fashion dolls from garage sales and restoring them for my favorite thrift shop. I just found the BEST thing for tangled, matted doll hair--synthetic wig detangling spray! The tangles come out like magic and it makes the hair smooth and shiny, with no residue at all. I also found that a human wig brush with metal pins works wonderfully--plastic brushes tend to rip out doll hair.

It's also fun to wash a bag full of musty smelling doll clothing from a garage sale and find some treasures, like homemade dresses from the 70's and 80's (real snaps! no velcro!) and Collector's Edition dresses (high quality, with beautiful fabrics).

This is my fun thing. 🙂

  4. "On March 16, cows on a Texas dairy farm began showing symptoms of a mysterious illness now known to be H5N1 bird flu...The next day, cats on the farm that had consumed some of the raw milk from the sick cows also became ill. While the cows would go on to largely recover, the cats weren't so lucky. They developed depressed mental states, stiff body movements, loss of coordination, circling, copious discharge from their eyes and noses, and blindness. By March 20, over half of the farm's 24 or so cats died from the flu.

The early outbreak data from the Texas farm suggests the virus is getting better and better at jumping to mammals...On March 25, the US Department of Agriculture confirmed the presence of H5N1 in a dairy herd in Texas, marking the first time H5N1 had ever been known to cross over to cows. Since then, the USDA has tallied infections in at least 34 herds in nine states: Texas, Kansas, Michigan, New Mexico, Idaho, Ohio, South Dakota, North Carolina, and Colorado.

The Food and Drug Administration, meanwhile, has detected genetic traces of H5N1 in roughly 20 percent of commercial milk samples. While commercial milk is still considered safe—pasteurization is expected to destroy the virus and early testing by the FDA and other federal scientists confirms that expectation—the finding suggests yet wider spread of the virus among the country's milk-producing cows."

And now the current outbreak has spread to a human (warning, shows picture of farm worker's hemorrhaging eyes):

    Anyone else concerned about this?

Please don't drink raw milk, peeps.

The "Impossible Burger" is not in any way a health food. It doesn't even seem to be food as I would define it from its ingredients: GMO yeast, GMO soy, seed and coconut oils, sugars, salt, cellulose (undigestible tree fiber), added vitamins.

The main ingredient in Impossible burgers is soy protein. Soy makes it possible for each patty to have *19 grams* of protein per serving, compared to 17 grams in the same amount of ground beef. Impossible burgers are not a "fake" food. They contain real protein from real plants.

Also, I love to be able to get a delicious vegan sandwich when my family feels like Burger King. 🙂

The reality is that there is a TON of animal suffering involved in producing grains, vegetables, and fruits. It's just popular to ignore that.

All actions have consequences. Some animals do die in the production of crops. However, if one wants to cause far less animal suffering, a vegan diet is the best way to do that.

This is an excellent and comprehensive essay regarding the death of animals in agriculture:

    https://medium.com/age-of-awareness/no-vegans-dont-kill-more-animals-than-human-omnivores-a1975d1a497c

Relevant studies on both sides of the issue are discussed.

The author writes, "If the meat industry — which is the actual culprit in the expanding cropland footprint — no longer existed, the world would need far less cropland than it currently does, not more. The bulk of academic and scientific investigations into agricultural land use say meat production kills at least 10 times as many animals than crops produced for human consumption."

  7. https://www.popsci.com/science/lab-grown-meat-ban/

This week, Florida officially became the first state to make good on threats to ban cultivated meat. On Tuesday, Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law legislation making it illegal to manufacture, sell, hold, or distribute lab-grown meat within the state. Those who run afoul of the new law could be charged with a misdemeanor crime. Similar legislation is currently under discussion in Alabama, Arizona, and Tennessee. Violators of those bills, if they come to pass, could face jail time or fines.

“Florida is fighting back against the global elite’s plan to force the world to eat meat grown in a petri dish or bugs to achieve their authoritarian goals,” DeSantis said during a press conference Wednesday. “We will save our beef.”

...Lawmakers opposed to cultivated meat, broadly, have attempted to connect the industry to a larger supposed culture war. DeSantis, for his part, has previously described lab-grown meat as “part of a whole ideological agenda” and claims it would threaten ranchers. Others, like Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Wilton Simpson, who supports the law, have called lab-grown meat a “disgraceful attempt to undermine our proud traditions and prosperity.”

Yet another case of "you can't make this stuff up." Can you imagine how beneficial this could potentially be for the environment, for animal welfare, and for the economy?

    What says the Hive?

Let's try to keep away from politics.

One of our kitty babies died unexpectedly this past weekend.  That kitty was an ornery diva her whole life.  But she was a little shadow and followed me around.  But it's always hard to lose a beloved kitty baby.

    Deepest sympathy. ❤️🐾🌈

I was thinking about you in the night and wondering how you would manage if it hadn’t passed by the time you needed to travel. I had the thought to wonder if you could take an AZO to numb things a bit? Would that be contraindicated for any reason?

AZO tablets are how I survive. They are not contradicted and help with the feeling of urgency. Highly recommended for anyone dealing with this issue or with a UTI. Bit of trivia: they are made from a type of orange dye that numbs the urinary tract through contact (when it passes through). When I see orange pee I know I'm going to feel much better. 🙂

Thank you all so, so much for your words of encouragement and prayers. I literally had under a minute of discomfort during the whole seven hours we were traveling!!! Unbelievable. It's been pretty bad the last couple days. I hope the stone keeps moving, though.

Shout out to Camry Hybrids! We picked up our 2022 model and it drives beautifully. We got about 53 miles a gallon when driving 55-60 mph! Love it.

  10. Good morning, all! Unfortunately the stone has not passed yet, but I am feeling a little better at the moment. Ready to get the road trip going so I can be back home this afternoon and keep guzzling fluids. 🙂

We are buying a car from Carvana and driving to a pick up point to save the $700 delivery fee. (They do not often come by our small town.) I'm required to be there since I'm involved in the trade in and purchase.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday!

I assume you’re drinking ridiculous amounts of water? I hope it passes any time now!

Ridiculous amounts of sugar-free lemonade because I can't stand plain water (I know, I know...)

No luck yet! It may be a long night.

Thanks so much for your prayers and good thoughts. Love you all.

  12. I've had lots (and lots) of kidney stones over my lifetime, but I really need to get rid of the current one quickly. DH and I are taking a mini-road trip tomorrow and I have to go; it isn't optional. I'm really not looking forward to a long drive with this thing still inside.

I have hope that the end is in sight (worsening discomfort and blood in my pee). Please pray / send good thoughts that it will come out soon. My last one was massive so I am a bit nervous.

    Thank you, friends.❤️
