  1. Truthfully, I am not crafty at all. My kids however enjoy crafts and will usually come up with things to do on their own. We keep plenty of art supplies, Play-doh, Sculpey, etc around and the kids do their own thing.

    I've been forced to be a little more crafty though because of being a 4-H leader with the little kids, so I do put together a craft every month for the group to do. It's actually pretty fun.

  2. I voted other. My oldest ds uses Mastering Mathematics. When he's finished with that he'll move to Teaching Textbooks.

    My #2 ds uses Practical Arithmetic, and my dd uses Simply Numbers.

  3. I've published my Medieval History Copybook on Lulu, and before I start charging money for the download, I wanted to offer it for free (the downloadable version) to you all on the board.

    If you're able to email me with comments on changes I should make, or topics to add, etc., that would be great, but don't feel obligated to do so. I'd also love to hear about the formatting -- the size of the font/lines, etc., for ease of writing.

    Here's the link for it:

    Wow, this looks fabulous, Julie! Thanks a bunch! I think my son will enjoy this. I love that you have blank lines to copy on after the selection.

  4. I love Sonlight's thoroughness and ease of use but I am starting to dislike some of the books in its Core Programs. What would you guys switch to? I would prefer something Catholic or secular.:confused:

    Well, I probably shouldn't be answering because I never use anything as written, but... :D

    Have you looked at Winter Promise? We used Sonlight for several years but I was unhappy with some of the books too (and some of the company policies). We've used Winter Promise for a couple of years now, and I've enjoyed their programs a lot. I do supplement with Catholic materials, some from CHC and some from Our Lady of Victory. I'm thinking Seton would be kind of dry after using SL?? Just my 2 cents.

  5. My DD8yo had a poetry assignment for R&S English today. We've been studying amphibians so she choose to incorporate that theme into the poem. I love it and just had to share with all of you.

    Frogs

    by Lydia

    Spring has come.

    The Frogs awake;

    Peeping, Hopping, Croaking,

    New watery eggs, they make.

    Spring has gone.

    The Tadpoles awake;

    Swimming, Splashing, Growing,

    New land-loving frogs, they'll make.

    Very nice job! I like it.

  6. Writing things out just does not lend itself to sarcasm does it? IRL I am a very considerate person, who rarely offends others. (I hope!)

    But sometimes, when I post online, I fear that I have offended someone with my reply. I don't mean to. The thoughts just don't translate and sound the way they did on my head!!

    Please, some tell me they have felt this way!! :o

    Yes, I have felt this way. I think though, that if your intention is not to offend anyone, then you're not likely to - and if someone IS offended, then it's more because they are thin-skinned, or looking for some reason to be offended, KWIM? People can (and should) ask for clarification if they're not sure they're understanding you correctly.

  7. Hi, I used to be Yvette in CA on the old boards. I've been married to my dh David for 19 years, and we have 4 academically-average, but very sweet and mostly adorable children: Declan - 12, Duncan - 10, Cecily - 8, and Fiona - 5.

    I use a wild assortment of curriculum - right now I am using WP American Story 2 with my 2 boys. We are nearly finished with it and will then move on to Christian Cottage unit studies - For God So Loved the World. My dd8 is using WP Animal Worlds, Pathway readers, Simply Numbers, and R&S Patterns of Nature, among other things.

    I am Catholic, but have been attending an Eastern Orthodox (OCA) church lately.

    In my past life I was a veterinary technician and I have degrees in plant science (viticulture) and animal health technology. My dh is a computer programmer manager guy with the state government, and a part-time pianist with 2 local churches.

    We belong to 4-H (this is our 1st year) and we are enjoying it a lot. The boys are taking soccer, football, archery, entomology, cooking, and medieval history. The girls are doing crafts, cooking, and dance.

    We have a rabbit and 2 cats. I enjoy reading, baking, computer time, drinking Coke, bargain hunting, gardening and sewing on occasion, and traveling (which rarely happens). My best talent is solving Cryptoquotes, and I have no talent at all for drawing, fixing hair, or anything that requires coordination.

  8. I am pretty new to these boards - we just decided to homeschool DD (4) this past spring, and I have been lurking on here ever since. In the last month or so, I have started posting. Once in a while.

    I am also a former teacher/librarian. I never intended to homeschool, but my DH is in the military and we are moving around so much that I thought it would be a great way to provide some stability for her... we will have moved 5 times before she is five years old.

    Currently we are living in Oklahoma City (for 6 months) and sometime between April and July, we will be moving to Okinawa, Japan.

    We only have one child now, but are hoping for more someday...

    Hi! Welcome, Amy, you're in great company here!
