  1. My now-17 year old had his tonsils out when he was 6. He was having repeated strep infections - IIRC, maybe 5 or so in a year. Recovery was fine - lots of popsicles and mac and cheese. He's never had strep since then. He is fairly healthy - he did develop epilepsy at age 13, but I'm sure that's completely unrelated.

  2. I have been teaching 100% online for many years. I have an interview tomorrow for a homeschool co-op/hybrid school for a teaching position. I emailed my resume, but should I bring hard copies of it?

I don’t  know how to do job interviews these days!!!!

  3. I am on Day 5 of a fever and congestion. Several Covid tests have been negative. I am miserable.  No one else in my family has been sick. I’m assuming I probably have the flu, but it’s too late for antivirals I would think. If I drag myself to Urgent Care today, can they even do anything?

  4. Same here. We have been on 2 Disney cruises in the past 2 years. We don’t have a huge, fancy house. We don’t have fancy cars. DH is a saver and he has spreadsheets galore and we worked hard to save up for those trips. We got so many comments about those cruises - Just like the ones you are getting.

Congrats on the anniversary and graduation!!!!

  5. I have always had super-vivid, really intense dreams. An occasional nightmare, but mostly just really vivid dreams. It’s exhausting and I feel like it’s just one of the puzzle pieces in my severe fatigue journey.

I had a sleep study last year and it was normal.

Any other ideas? Supplements that will help? I do have anxiety, Hypothyroid, and GERD.

  6. We just made a hotel reservation for Canton, OH. It's a teensy bit outside totality, but we will plan to drive somewhere. We live in VA, and it's about an 8 hour drive. We will stay a few days and go to the NFL Hall of Fame, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Not to sound overbasic, but what is your % fat in your diet and do you get outside to get fresh air each day? The pituitary gland needs oxygen, so something as simple as *sitting outside* each day can be helpful. Yesterday I was out on my porch swing, all bundled up with layers of fleece and blankets. Every day fresh air, the more the better.

I do get fresh air and sunshine every day. Percentage of fat, I’m not sure. My Endo wants me eating high protein and low carb. I do eat way too much sugar, but I’m working on that.

It's interesting to see how we all who struggle with chronic illness have learned to look at every possible angle because our doctors just can't. They don't have time. There is so much for us to untangle.

I'll throw one more thing that is definitely worth checking: a sleep study. Rule out sleep apnea or another sleep disorder. I discovered that I have Periodic Limb Movement Disorder. SSRIs can exacerbate it, so I weaned off of Zoloft. That helped some.

    {Incidentally, that is another reason to get the ferritin checked. Low ferritin is the primary cause of PLMD. (The cause of mine happens to be purely neurological.) A lot of doctors will blow off a low ferritin number if your hematocrit is okay, but some people are more sensitive than others. Just something to keep in mind. It can make you feel terrible.}

I also use an Oura Ring to track my sleep. That was really enlightening. I thought the sleep doctor would have pointed this out from my sleep study, but he didn't. I figured out that I was getting very, very little deep, slow wave sleep. Sometimes zero. Long story short... between a new med and lifestyle changes, I am getting some consistent deep sleep, and I cannot believe how much better I feel. It makes me sad to think about how many people wouldn't think to check this. For me...it didn't matter how many hours I slept, I still felt horrible. It was the lack of deep sleep.

eta: I think the hormonal changes of peri and menopause probably caused the change in the quality of my sleep. I just started HRT 4 days ago. So far so good with that.

    Sleep study was normal.

Do you experience post exertional malaise or more of a constant fatigue level?

    Are you still in peri?

Constant level of fatigue. Peri - I have never had a menstrual cycle at all. It’s due to my pituitary gland not working
