  1. I am following this thread. I turned 50 in October and I thought I was fine with it. But around the same time, I plunged into a deep something - I don't even know ...... I have always struggled with Anxiety, and take meds for it, and I do have some health issues that are kind of vague and probably just menopause. I just feel kind of lost in general - my kids are 12, 15, and 16 - we are still homeschooling and dealing with their learning disabilities and their medical stuff. It's all just a lot and I am tired - in all the ways.

    I have a syllabus for an 18-week Government course (last week study/take Final) which uses Crash Course, iCivics, textbook and oodles of fantastic movies. I provided options for a basic class along with an Honors track with two text options. I can send it via email to anyone who is interested. My students really loved it as it was more application of concepts instead of just typical text reading/testing. My younger dc even got involved with the iCivics "Do I Have a Right?" simulation.

    @BakersDozen I PMed you.

  3. I would like to get an espresso machine for making lattes at home. I think I would say my budget is under $200. I’ve looked on Amazon, but I get overwhelmed very quickly!

    I just want one that makes basic espresso and steams milk. Any recommendations????? ( I do have a great drip coffee machine already, but I’m open to a combo machine if that fits in the budget.)

  4. 2 years ago (when I was 48), I started having serious fatigue - as in I have to take a nap pretty much every day. It's seriously inconvenient. My Primary Care doctor has ruled out - sleep apnea, depression, anemia, autoimmune issues. I am Hypothyroid, but I take Armour and that has been fairly stable for a while, although I know that can be complicated. I do need to eat better, exercise, and drink more water, which I am working on.

    But what else can I do? My GYN upped my estrogen replacement and that got rid of the hot flashes. The fatigue is seriously affecting my life and I'm so over it. Ideas? Supplements? Something else to look for?
  5. I just recently changed primary care doctors. My previous one left the practice, I had had issues with the practice in general, so I decided to find a different practice altogether.

    My criteria was - Who could see me as a new patient the quickest? Many doctors in my area have 6 month waiting lists or weren't taking new patients at all. I could not wait that long, so I asked friends for recommendations, called a bunch of places, and eventually, got lucky and got an appt 2 weeks later.

    I dunno, but my kid gets letters encouraging her to order her prescription through a mail-order pharmacy, which was in no way initiated by us.  I thought it was generated by one of our providers as a routine thing.  Maybe I should look at it more closely next time vs. just throwing it in the trash.

    It may have been sent by your insurance company. Ours requires us to use mail order for maintenance medications.

    Exactly what I am planning to do.   Though it will go on a tabbed page near the front, with my Goals list.

    Though I may make it a document that I can print and put on the fridge too?

    Great idea. Hubby is helping me make a list for our family to do as well. So that one will go on the fridge!

    I've done it in the past, and am resetting again now, as I've had some injuries that have set me back. Biggest mindset trick for me is to NOT think about the future too much, and just focus on the right now. So not to think about never having sugar again or whatever, but just to think, "I'm not going to eat that candy right now".

    Yes! I have ADHD and tend to get all fatalistic - I just ate cookies, so I'll NEVER be able to eat healthy.

    I did a huge reset almost 35 years ago. I went from an "eat anything I want and as much as I want" kind of person to someone who ate a super healthy, mostly vegetarian diet. I also started exercising regularly at a fairly stringent level. I lost over 60 pounds and have kept most of it off over the years. For me it was really an epiphany kind of thing. I woke up on the morning of my 25th birthday and decided if I was going to change the way things were going I needed to do it then. And I did. I've had many people ask me how I did it and my honest answer has always been "sheer stubbornness."

    I keep saying I need to channel my stubbornness and do this.
