  1. The Books of Elsewhere series by Jacqueline West is a fun children's fantasy series that I, myself, couldn't put down. Children's literature is probably my favorite too. :) The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place is also an interesting Children's series. Oh, and I really liked Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children! Has she read that one yet?

I'll try to think of more I've read and loved too.

  2. Do you have a laptop cooling pad?

We use a local computer repair shop recommended by our firm's IT guy, but they have to take it apart and look at it too. It's quicker without shipping. Definitely back everything up! Amazon is usually cheaper, but I've gotten an emergency EHD at Costco. And I would research new laptops ASAP. You may be getting ones that are too "small" for such heavy use if they're only lasting a year. If this one can be fixed, send it off and use it for backup/kid stuff when it comes back. It's a tax deduction at least...

This was going to be my suggestion.

Also, I wouldn't take the laptop to Best Buy. I'd find a local smaller computer store that fixes computers. They typically do a more thorough job for far less. Ask around for recommendations. See if they have a Facebook page with feedback. Whatever. When I got my laptop, I had a virus appear pretty quickly on it. I took it to a small place ( I'd known the owner for a long time so knew she could fix it easily and quickly). I had it back, good as new, within the week. :)

  3. I'm 34 with a 15 year old. I'd feel more out of place being the oldest mom. Having the oldest kid feels almost normal to me at this point. ;) Sorry it was a shocker for you, OP!

  4. Ooooh! Score! Spacers, too! Thank you!

OP, rest. Drink fluids. Claim that you have man strep, and go to bed once DH is off for the weekend.

Well, my kids are old (ish) so I've been claiming man strep for the last several days. Lol. But I'm feeling much better this morning so I'll be taking DS12 to his school tour this afternoon and possibly doing some school work with the younger two again ( something I've had no energy to do since Tuesday). :)

  5. Ouch, poor you. Did you get the kids checked? (This reminds me, I should order some rapid strep tests off the internet. I hate going in just to argue with the doctor to please do a strep test on my largely asymptomatic kid. 20 minutes later - surprise! It's strep! But the doctor never believes me until the test results. Kiddo is *weird*, and only shows symptoms in a really *weird* way.)

I didn't get them checked yet. If they show symptoms, or if DH does, we'll get the sick person treated. ;)

  6. I'm sorry. I am just starting to get over a bout of pneumonia. I didn't go to the doctor nearly as soon as I should have, I kept thinking I would feel better the next day. But I didn't. I've been sick for nearly 2 weeks now.

Thank you everyone! I'm doing my best to just lay in bed and do nothing. Thankfully, my older boys are still home and holding down the fort pretty well downstairs while DH is at work.

I've actually been sick for 16 days now. :( I was starting to feel a little better...and then I wasn't. It just kept getting worse and worse. Thankfully we had an urgent care place that could see and treat me.

  7. There should be some law of nature that doesn't allow moms to get strep. Seriously. I finally got to the doctor today. They did a strep test, it came back positive. :(

On one hand, I'm really glad it is something treatable. On the other, it just stinks to be sick!

  8. THANK YOU! I don't know things like this. This it what I needed to hear.

I found a blue version of that dress and I've ordered it.

I'd embarrass myself without the hive.

I like this one better anyway! But I agree with the PPs. I wouldn't wear white to a wedding in trying to keep the bride's feelings in mind.

  9. I saw that too. You can see the test struggles to show positive in the video because it's watered down, but does turn. It says at the end that she took another test to confirm the results. I also saw the video after they lost him/her. So sad. :(

  10. You'll need to make sure that whatever you buy works on the network with the provider you choose. That means you'll need to check that works in your zip code and that it's an ATT phone if that's what you go with.

If I were you, hearing your phone uses, I'd check out Tracfone. You can Google which phones use an ATT network in your area from the list Tracfone gives you of phones. However, I'd then check Amazon to be sure they aren't selling it cheaper. ;)

  11. I would start by reminding my son of the rule before you see this boy. Several times. "We are seeing Jimmy today for a play date. Do you remember our rule? You may only wrestle with Daddy. Is Jimmy Daddy? No. So no wrestling with Jimmy today." And then be ready to stop him over and over again for the time you're together. He'll get it eventually, but it's going to take awhile. As PPs have said, this was something he thought was acceptable for a long time. It'll take awhile to correct it. Good luck!

  12. I take PayPal and linked to an account we use for online purchases so it never has much in it. Never take personal or gift payments. Always make it for services. I've never had an issue.

As for the idea that you'd get more buyers, I believe that to be true. When I see a seller doesn't accept PayPal and I can't meet up with them to pay cash, I move on.

Good luck with your decision! :)

  13. I'm still doing puppy research though we aren't to the point where we are actually totally ready to get a puppy (DH is not totally on board yet).  Can you help me figure out how much we should expect to budget for a family dog?  What sorts of things need to be included in that budget other than food?

    Thanks! :)
