  1. I can't seem to find the answer to these on the CB web site. I was hoping the Hive would know! Ds hasn't taken the SAT or SAT II tests, yet. Maybe these will be answered as we sign-up and/or go through the process. 1. How does Ds choose "Score Choice?" Is it some automatic thing when he signs up for the SAT & SAT II tests, or does he have to select something somewhere? (Maybe on the form he fills out when he takes the test?) 2. If I sign him up for an SAT II test now (that he will take in May or June of 2016) and he thinks he can't get a decent score when the time rolls around, is there any way to get him off the list? I don't really care if we get our money back, I just don't want him to be listed to take the test if he doesn't think he can do well. Should I wait until later to sign him up? My only concern with this is the risk of not having a seat at one of the locations nearby if we wait until almost test time. Thanks for your help and wisdom! :) Hot Lava Mama
  2. Thanks for all of the responses and help. I was able to find a private school that would take him, and we got him enrolled. I feel so much better now! I appreciate all of the help! Hot Lava Mama
  3. Thank you! I will add that to his reading list. So many great ideas from everyone. I really appreciate it. :) Hot Lava Mama
  4. Looking at CB for testing dates, and I noticed that SAT II tests are on the same day as the regular SAT. How does that work? Do I need to pick different months so he can do the SAT II tests he wants, and then the regular SAT on another day? I assume he can't do all on the same day. Is that correct? Hot Lava Mama
  5. Oh no! I hope all is well! Lori D., you are so awesome and helpful! Whatever is going on, you are in my prayers! Hot Lava Mama
  6. Thanks for the link. The funny thing is that Ds is in debate this year and one of the resolutions is to compare a liberal arts degree to a "practical skills" degree. Ds is still working on convincing Dh. (I agree with the liberal arts track, btw!)
  7. Very cool! He will dig this! He just went on a tour of Stanford with Dh last week! :) Hot Lava Mama
  8. Thank you! We registered online, so I never received a mail guide. I appreciate your help! :) Hot Lava Mama
  9. Ds is going to take the ACT next week for the first time. Is there some kind of "home school code" that he needs - similar to the PSAT home school code? If so, where do I find it. Do they mail the scores to our home? How do we get the scores mailed to the colleges once he figures out where he wants to go? He is going into 11th grade, by the way. He won't be applying to college until a year from now. Also, should he include his SS#? Thanks Hot Lava Mama
  10. Thanks! I will check these out! I guess the term "trade journal" is the "old school" in us! :) I think your ideas are spot on with what we are looking for. Hot Lava Mama
  11. Thanks for the ideas! I will look into those. :) Hot Lava Mama
  12. Thank you! I didn't even think of the library! Duh! We are there every week! I will look into the outreach programs at the local colleges. Thanks! I never heard about this before. I appreciate your help! Hot Lava Mama
  13. Thank you! We will look into these! I appreciate your help! Hot Lava Mama
  14. Ds (rising 11th) has taken the PSAT at a certain high school for the past two years (as practice). I signed him up two weeks ago-and paid-for the test. I just heard from the VP of the school and he said that they can not accommodate ds this year because they will be testing all of their 10th graders this year and will not have space for outside students. After pleading (and having a near heart attack!) and also telling him that we already paid and thought we were registered, he said that he "would roll the dice and hope he has the space for him." How would you take that? I am assuming he means that my son WILL be able to take the test at that school. What should I do now? What if he shows up and they don't let him take the test. What are my options? There isn't another school that is very close that gives the test. I'm panicking! Of course this happens when the test counts! Hot Lava Mama
  15. Dh would like ds (rising 11th) to start reading "trade journals" for the majors he might be interested in. Dh is stressing that the point of college is to get a job....one that pays....especially one that pays the college debt! :) He likes programming (would that be called computer science engineering?), but I have no idea where to find trade journals related to that. Any ideas? He is also into electrical engineering, chemical engineering and aerospace engineering. How do I find out which trade journals are out there? I am not even sure how to go about finding out what kind of jobs he can get with those types of majors. Can anyone point me in a direction to find (1) trade journals and/or (2) related jobs in these fields? Thanks! Hot Lava Mama
  16. Yes, I would like to "re-shuffle" the pages. Cutting and pasting would required too much reformatting. Is it possible?
  17. Is it possible to "re-arrange" the pages? I have a summary of ds courses in 2007 Word, but I didn't put them in the order that I will eventually present them. Is it possible for me to manually move the pages within the document? Thanks! Hot Lava Mama
  18. One of my ds's had a therapist that was anti-homeschooling. I didn't figure it out until a while into therapy. I left. I have also found many pediatricians are anti-homeschooling. (But some are very much pro-homeschooling, too!) I just think it depends on so many factors that you won't know unless you are very upfront about it. I would start by bringing it up before any sessions and see if you can tell if the person's body language matches up with his words. Hope you find someone soon! Hot Lava Mama
  19. Thanks! Congratulations on ds in Stanford! You rock! :) Hot Lava Mama
