  1. When my older son was applying for colleges three years ago as a freshman, we applied for FAFSA. We did not apply for FAFSA in his sophomore or junior year. My youngest son who is currently applying for colleges will need to apply for FAFSA because a couple of colleges he applied to require that he does for scholarship purposes. My questions is, do I need to create another account as a parent for my younger son or do I use the old account? Thanks.
  2. Here is the question: How long have you known this student and in what context? Since I am the mom, do I just answer "18 years and that he is my son and student"? I feel like I'm asking a dumb questions, but I just want to make sure that I answer it properly. Another question regarding signing of the counselor letter and transcript. Do you actually hand sign the letter and transcript and then scan it for uploading? OR do you sign it electronically by typing your name on the signature area? Thanks for your help!
  3. Thanks for your responses. For my oldest son who graduated 3 years ago, I graded his PE as "pass". I have another son who will graduate in 2019, and thought I would check to see what the consensus is. What about number of credits, 1.0 or 0.5? I am thinking I should give him 1.0 since it's a year round activity. But in the past I think, I read 0.5 is more appropriate. What do you think?
  4. Hi, I was wondering how you would grade a PE class. My son is not playing sports at this point in high school. However, he does regularly does physical activity such as biking, swimming, walking, etc. Do you actually give a grade of "A", "B", or "C", or "Pass". Thanks for your thoughts.
  5. I just want to add our experience since DS just finished his first year as a freshman at IU. DS is a piano performance major, and he LOVES it! He loves everything about IU. The strings department may be more competitive (not cut throat) than other departments, but the students are still nice to each other. DS tells me that the music education majors, once they graduate, most of them if not all will get hired almost immediately. In fact, one of DS's friends is a music education major and originally was going to attend Michigan State Univ, but once recd acceptance letter from IU, decided to attend IU just for that reason. It's true there are 5 music buildings, but they are grouped together so that they are within 5 minutes of walking distance. IU is about 17 hours from us, and yes, that's far. I initially did not want him to go to IU because of distance and size, but that's where DS chose to go. Since he never went to a brick and mortar school, he didn't know any better as far as being in a large university or small university. IU just felt "right" to him, and not only that, the fact that JSOM is a highly ranked music school was also important to him. Besides being a top music school, the students and faculty are supportive and friendly at JSOM.
  6. Hello! I know Derek Owens provides quality math classes. Can someone comment specifically on his Algebra 2 class (on-line)? Thanks.
  7. Thank you so much for your input! I really appreciate it! :001_smile:
  8. Can anyone tell me if one is better than the other? I'm trying to decide for DS for his dorm. Thanks.
  9. My DS has decided to study at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music majoring in Piano Performance. He's been playing/studying piano since he was four years old and is naturally gifted in this area. He chose Indiana mainly because of a strong scholarship offer, the fine reputation of the Jacobs School of Music, and most importantly, the professor he will study with at Indiana.
  10. Hello everyone! I want to share that Ds has been accepted to the University of Michigan and the University of Cincinnati. And we were notified that he has been awarded a Chancellor's Scholarship, which carries a 4-year full tuition scholarship from TCU! We are so elated by this news!
  11. My son has been accepted to Texas Christian University and Florida State University.

  14. My son is interested in applying to Oberlin Conservatory. Below I have copy and pasted the requirements from both the College and Conservatory. Homeschooled Requirements (Oberlin Conservatory)Homeschooled applicants to the Conservatory should submit an academic portfolio, with a detailed syllabus that lists the subjects studied each year, the dates each subject was studied, a description of each course of study, major texts used or literature read, and evidence of science laboratory experiences. In addition, the test scores from either SAT I, or the ACT with writing exam are required. Academic Portfolio (Oberlin College)A detailed syllabus that lists the subjects studied each year, the dates each subject was studied, a description of each course of study, major texts used or literature read, and evidence of science laboratory experiences. The Academic Portfolio is to be uploaded in PDF format to Oberlin’s Common App Writing Supplement. I did call he Conservatory and they said they want tests. When I asked how many science lab reports they want, the woman on the phone said whatever you can give me. Then I said how about four labs for each science class, and she said ok. I think I will call back and ask for an admissions counselor specific questions. Sending lab reports, sample work, even detailed syllabus and course description would be like sending a book....
