  1. Most of you probably know about this, but I just stumbled across it, thanks to Hannah's group and thought I would post it here. http://www.lulu.com/content/796912 It is awesome. I wish there was one similar for SOTW II! :)
  2. I don't expect them to get all the answers right, by far. I would be thrilled if they could get just one. *sigh* :D We are using Volume I and I am not understanding why the 8 yo is having such a hard time grasping it. They love the material and look forward to using it. But, the it is like they get brain drain... KWIM?
  3. Okay. I am struggling here. I want to jump up and down, throw a temper tantrum and explode. My children are six and eight. :D We use SOTW VI (we are midway through) for history. If I read a chapter to the kids and then ask questions, they cannot tell me the answers. Is there something I am doing wrong? We read aloud, listen to the cds and the eldest reads on her own before we do the read alouds. I have tried letting them illustrate what I am reading about, sitting with eyes closed focused on what I am reading, reading it three times before asking the questions (1 time a day for three days). Nothing seems to help. I am at a loss. I need suggestions.... I am going to pitch my temper tantrum while I wait to see what tips everyone has! LOL ***This posted here and on the right board.... Can a mod help and merge? The board was having trouble when I posted... I had no idea it would post twice. *bag* sorry.********
  4. We tried all the above suggestions, and it just did not work out for my youngest dd. She constantly struggled. I couldn't get my hands on Bob books, but found a great site: http://www.readinga-z.com We love it. She is now on level 15 and reading 240+ words per sitting. In just 6 months. I love it!
  5. Okay, my daughters both love music. We are starting recorder lessons this year. It has been suggested that they are at good ages to do the piano as well. I have a 6 and 8 year old. My question is this: I have an antique piano (1911) that is tuned and in good working order. The person that tuned it stated that he would not let a new student learn on it because the pitch will throw him off. He stated new students should always learn on newer pianos because they can be tuned to a certain level, where as older pianos cannot have this done. I would like to hear your thoughts. :) Can they learn on the piano we have? Or should I try to give it away and buy a new on for them to learn on ? TIA!
  6. Thanks! :) I think it was L n L but I am going to check out RR too. :) Thanks again!
  7. I would start out with FLL1. My oldest was in 2nd grade when we started homeschooling and that is when we started FLL1 with her. It has been great! This has helped her comprehension as well. :) We loved FLL1 and can't wait to start FLL2 :).
  8. I know I have seen the links for these before...However it seems my mind is failing me this morning as a search was fruitless... LOL Thanks!
  9. Myrtle, my dd is like that! She can add wonderfully and subtract until we go above her counting threshold! It really threw me for a loop! Thanks for all the suggestions! :)
  10. My youngest dd was diagnosed as being on the Autism Spectrum when she was two. The diagnosis was reconfirmed when she was four due to my request. After the first diagnosis, I sank us into every type of therapy recommended for her: physical therapy, occupational therapy, play therapy and speech therapy. At the age of four the only issues she was continuing to have were speech and a slight delay (6 months to 1 yr) in her thinking skills. I think the most frustrating thing for us in regards to this journey we are on is one of set backs. Before any therapy Zoe had fine motor skills superior to her older sister (older by 2 years), but after therapy they were gone. Apparently the ''retraining'' that they had to do in therapy erased her fine motor skills.. So, that is where we are. We now only do home therapy because she is so improved! I am thrilled. ~~~~~~~~~~Question~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Zoe has always had an issue with memory recall, so the counting has been one of our biggest problems. :) It took awhile to get her on track to count to ten and then a LONG time to count to twenty, which we just accomplished!!! How on earth am I going to help us reach thirty???? I almost lost it with it taking forever to learn to twenty. We rote count, count objects, count out a number of candies and she can have as many pieces as she can count. LOL Any other ideas??? Thanks!
  11. How old was your child before you decided to start the Orthodontics? What were your reasons? Do you have any experiences (good and bad) that you would like to share? Please, oh please. LOL The Orthodontist wants to start my eight year old on a two phase program next month. Sure it is costly, but if it is what she needs then fine, kwim? But, they want to install a metal plate in the top of her mouth to help spread her palate to the correct size.... :glare: I think that would hurt! :( And the plate isn't contoured to fit against the top of the mouth, so I worry about stuff getting in between that plate and the top of the mouth... UGH.... The device is call growth appliances.... Do you do this???? LOL Any advice would be awesome!
  12. :yeahthat: ! :) I completely agree with PP :) I would love a list that included more cultural diversity! :D
  13. There is a great yahoo group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Hannah_hs_helps/?yguid=300514265 Go to her files section. She has flash cards that can be used for a timeline. :) This really helps my youngest dd (age 6) relate to SOTW V I and she loves to practice putting them in order! HTH
  14. I can't wait to get into V II ! I love Story of the World and the flow to them. :) By far, it is one of the best History curricula that I could find.... :)
  15. The Scholastic Dictionary for Children is great!!!
  16. Thanks Heather! :) I will definitely look into that program. I would love to hear if anyone else has other suggestions. :D
