  1. We like the skip counting CD from MUS. You can listen to the sample on their website.
  2. Tracy, that's good to know that The Sunrise Edition will be going up to Algebra 2! Thanks again for your input! I'm still deciding here... Blessings, Robbie
  3. Tracey, thanks for the advice! Do you have plans for the upper grades yet? Blessings, Robbie
  4. Tracey, thank you for sharing the experience that your daughter has had with switching programs. It has been very helpful! I definitely need to back-track a bit after reading your comments on Light Unit 409:) Blessings, Robbie
  5. We will probably back up to 304 or 305 also just to make sure we didn't miss anything. Before we jump in, do you know if Sunrise Math 6-8 are still manageable for a non-mathy teacher??? Thanks for the help:) Blessings, Robbie
  6. Thanks Tracey, this is very helpful. I was unaware that the instructions were in the Light Unit itself. How was the transition from the mastery to the smaller increments? Would you mind comparing the encremental vs mastery as far as the benefits? Thanks again for your time! Blessings, Robbie
  7. Thanks Tracey! How teacher intensive is CLE? I would really like something that my ds can work more independently:) Blessings, Robbie
  8. Does anyone have any experience switching from BJU Math to CLE? If so, can you please share your experience with me, and what light unit you started with? We finished BJU 4, and the TM was way too time consuming for me. We need to simplify things this coming year. I appreciate any help! Blessings, Robbie
  9. Thanks Susan! Looking at the samples and the scope and sequence of BJU, it looks like my ds would also be at the right level (3rd grade). I'm sorry I am not familiar with the term "front end estimation"??? I like the idea of one concept at a time. By the scope and sequence it looks very thorough. What about the extra workbooks? Robin:)
  10. Thanks Pam! I really like MUS myself... it's very simple, clean pages and easy for me to teach! The problem is with my ds, he doesn't like it. I think he needs something with more variety, and a little color. I've looked at Horizon, but I think that goes to fast for him. The samples on Abeka on not real good... it would probable need to buy a book to see. I have also looking at BJU and SM. Maybe some others with some long term experience with these will chime in. Robin:)
  11. I would really appreciate some recommendations for a solid elementary math curriculum. I'm looking for something that will lay a great foundation for the upper grades. This is our first year homeschooling, and my 8yo ds did Math U See Beta. He hated math by the end of the year. I think it was just not enough variety for him... too much of the same thing! I'm asking for help on this board because I know there's a lot of experience here... and I don't want to look back wishing that I had used something different! Math is not my strongest subject, and that's why I had chose MUS for the teaching videos. I don't think My ds is real mathy either, but with the right curriculum maybe that will change. He will be a 3rd grader. Thank you for any wisdom you can give, this has been a real struggle for us! Robin
  12. Anita, this sounds like my ds right now... hating math and balking daily! I like MUS especially how easy it is to teach, but I think like your dd that he also needs the variety, and the colorful text:) Robbie
  13. Elizabeth, Thank you for all of the great information, it is very helpful! I'm printing it out right now. I'm glad your dd is happier with math now, and understanding the concepts better! Math should be fun also:) Robbie
  14. Thanks Kay! I thought he would have to start in 1B if he hasn't done any multiplication yet??? I will take another look at the placement tests to see if it's possible to start higher. I don't want to lose too much time with him. We had already started over with the Alpha and Beta after taking him out of a private Christian school last year. He did Saxon 1 in first grade at school. Robbie
