  1. LOL...whoops... I edited the original post and added it. Thanks for replying and letting me know I was STUPID! lol
  2. I've updated my free botany curriculum for middle school / high school. All the links were updated, I made a year-long schedule and new books were added. http://www.guesthollow.com/homeschool/science/botany/botany_curriculum.html Happy learning!
  3. I've updated my free botany curriculum for middle school / high school. All the links were updated, I made a year-long schedule and new books were added. http://www.guesthollow.com/homeschool/science/botany/botany_curriculum.html Happy learning!
  4. Just letting everyone know I updated my free ancient history curriculum: http://www.guesthollow.com/homeschool/history/ancient/ancient_history_curriculum.html I updated all of the links and changed out some of the books. It's for grades 1-6. I'm still adding some visual components to the online schedule, but it's all ready to go. There is a printable schedule as well. Hope this helps someone! :-)
  5. The scientists will be presented in chronological order. :-) I'm kind of obsessive in that way, LOL. The science itself will be by topic. Is this a personal timeline you are working on or a commercial one?
  6. I'm creating a year-long, literature based "core" curriculum that is based on SCIENCE (and not history, like most core style curricula). It is going to cover elementary physics, a tiny dash of chemistry and a touch of astronomy. It will also cover famous scientists who worked on physics concepts or inventions - people like: Galileo, Newton, Margaret Knight, Edison, Marie Curie, etc. There will be lots of hands-on components and the usual stuff I find for my schedules: online free printables, videos and so on. It will have reading options that span the K-3 group and the 4-6 grade group, so it can be used with siblings who are not too close age-wise. I need a catchy name. Otter is growing up and I won't be using this with him, so it's not really Otter's anything. ;-) The schedule will be free online and I will have a printable version available in my online store. Anyway, I'm looking for ideas on how to name it! Anyone? I can incorporate my book characters (from The Science of Seasons), or not. I could just be boring and call it Guest Hollow's something or other...Elementary Physical Science or ?? It should be ready to go before August.
  7. Thanks! If you do, let me know what you think and how I can improve things!
  8. Wellll....there are a lot of reasons why I don't charge for my curriculum schedules. One reason is that I know what it's like to struggle and need to provide homeschooling materials on the cheap. I've had really tough times in my life and during those times God provided for so many of my needs (and even wants). It's just a small way I can give when so many have (even unknowingly) given to me and my family. My husband and I want to help other homeschoolers in whatever small way we can because this is something we really believe in. We give in this area (and others) in honor of our own blessings. Now I am at a point in our family journey where I need to start thinking of earning some $$ and it's going to have to be a balance for us when it comes to my website. We both still feel that the spirit of Guest Hollow is giving. So, I will have to find a way to monetize it, but still provide something for those who are struggling. I'm hoping to figure it all out. If I don't make $, this will not be a viable choice for my future. I really love doing this and really want to keep doing it, so, we'll see what happens. I believe that if it's meant to be a success, it will be. People will spread the word, people will donate, if they feel led to, we'll make a little $ off our Amazon commissions when people click through and purchase stuff there, and maybe people will buy the books and other materials I create to sell. In the meantime, those who NEED a curriculum and just can't afford one, can find a few offerings at my site and get most of the books from their local library. They can still have a fun and literature rich curriculum without paying the exorbitant prices you often have to pay for something like that. Everyone should be able to have a joyful homeschool. Everyone should have the materials they need to teach their kids at home. This is just my very small offering. :001_wub: I believe that if God wants it to be successful, it will be, even when I give away a lot for free.
  9. I hope your dd5 is OK and will heal up quickly!! So glad to hear (er, read) you'll be starting it up on Monday. Let me know how it goes and any feedback you might have as to how I can improve things. :-)
  10. I added printable schedule of the curriculum at my store for $2.00. :-) It's still totally free online. http://guesthollow.com/store/shop/guest-hollows-seasons-curriculum-schedule/ I plan on going through all my online schedules and revamping them and creating printable schedules. The exception for that is the Timeline History Schedule, as that is in such a unique format. I'm planning on checking and updating links, etc. in some of my much older curricula too. I also changed the graphic for the seasons curriculum, as the curriculum itself is not so much about the books I published, although it features them:
  11. Awww...thanks for trying!!! I'm not sure why it's not available for the basic Kindle. It should be. I'll look into that. It's full-color though and doesn't look so great on the regular Kindle as I tried the file on my Kindle Paperwhite before uploading it to Amazon's KDP program. You can get a free 30 day trial of Kindle Unlimited and it will work on your PC with the free app: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1002872331 It says further down the page linked above: "You don't need to own a Kindle device to enjoy Kindle Unlimited. With our free Kindle reading apps, you can read on any device with the Kindle app installed. And of course, you can always read on your Kindle. With Kindle Unlimited, you can take every word, every sentence, every story, everywhere you go. " Of course that means signing up for the free trial just to look at my book, lol...but it is another option. ;-)
  12. 1st through 6th grade. I've had a few compliments from some teens though, too, LOL. I'd say 3rd-5th grader is the best range (to read to self), but some of my testers used it with the 4-5 year old range and it worked for them as a read-aloud. Some of the older kids reported to enjoy it as well. Hmmm, I'm not being very helpful! I'll just stick with the 1st-6th designation. ;-) Let me know if you have any other questions!
  13. I didn't read the other replies, but I really love Lynda.com for Photoshop tutorials and training. You watch videos and can work right along with them. It does cost $, but it's been really worth it for me. I also used it with my teens.
  14. I'm also a believer in Thundershirts. I first heard of them here on this board and shared the info with my mom. She got one for her dog who gets anxious and that thing works miracles. It really does calm her dog down.
  15. No, because it's unwieldy to pull out and clean properly. It also isn't as stable unless it's only pulled out a little. Oh, and drippy things can spill onto the floor instead of the counter.
  16. :-) Love my view of the roses blooming out the window. Ahhh...spring!

  17. I guess it would help if I left a link to the book, dur... http://www.amazon.com/Science-Seasons-Guest-Hollow-Guide-ebook/dp/B00VN7FJVO/ref=sr_1_8_twi_1_kin?ie=UTF8&qid=1428701231&sr=8-8&keywords=science+of+seasons :001_rolleyes:
  18. Thanks for all the congratulations about my newly published Science of Seasons books!! I just enrolled the storybook in the KDP program, so anyone who is a subscriber to Kindle Unlimited or a Prime Member can borrow The Science of Seasons for free. Kindle Unlimited has a free 30 day trial. The link for that is right next to the Kindle Unlimited graphic where it says, "Learn More". If someone here has Kindle Unlimited or is a Prime member, would you plllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaase be willing to borrow my book and then write a review for it on Amazon? I'd REALLY appreciate it as it will help my ranking and help get things going on Amazon. :-) Thank you. :001_wub: I promise I'm not always this salesy (which you know as I've been here on these forums for years). I just NEED reviews. My books are so lonely without them, LOL. You get to borrow the book for free and I get a review. ;-) Of course you can borrow it and NOT leave a review, if you want, but then I will send this Ninja smiley after you.... ;-)
