  1. I only uploaded thumbnails. :-) I uploaded some thumbnails of the activity book too. I also added in a free pack of handwriting papers and a free, full-size sample of the playset kids with one set of clothes. You can find all that here: http://guesthollow.com/store/shop/the-science-of-seasons-learn-and-play-activities-book-pdf/
  2. I've posted samples of the storybook: http://guesthollow.com/store/shop/the-science-of-seasons-softcover/ I'm working on the samples for the activity book and will post them here they are up!
  3. I put a 2nd option up that can be done throughout the year season-by-season. Thanks for the idea! Enjoy! http://www.guesthollow.com/homeschool/science/seasons/seasons_curriculum2.html

    nevermind! :-)
  5. AHHHH! You are right! You get a free book too! PM me with your email address and I'll send you the info on how to get them for free. I will give you a gold star if you post what you think after looking them over, LOL... ;-)
  6. LOL...Oh..well, if that was the case, I wouldn't expect to make a dime. ;-)
  7. I'm happy to include that! All of you have been such an encouragement to me over the years and so immediately helpful when I needed to figure out little nitpicky things about the book cover and fonts, etc. So thanks to all of you!!
  8. I'd like to write more. I'm hoping this is the first in a series. I want to start out with science books and then branch out into other topics at some point. However, my success with this set will determine if I am able to devote that kind of time to future books. It's a full time job and if it doesn't at least show a glimmer of promise, I might have to go another direction. This is where my heart is though, so we'll see! It was a really fun process and I learned a LOT about drawing/painting/illustrating as well as the publishing process. I'm excited to get started on a 2nd book but am going to take a few weeks off to do some training at Lynda.com for Photoshop, etc. and wrap up this homeschool year with my son. I want to do the training at Lynda.com beacuse I know that I was doing things the hard way sometimes (digital painting, etc.) just because I didn't know the quick and easy way of getting ideas out of my head onto my digital canvases... I'm also waiting for my Cintiq (digital drawing tablet) to get back from warranty repair, so I can't do much yet anyway! I THINK the next book will be about plants and mushrooms. Same characters and all that. I will make an activity book to go with it too...That is, if it all works out. :-) Thanks for the compliment about the American history. I love doing all of this kind of stuff!!
  9. NO NO NO...um...not those Books, lol... Thanks for the giggle!
  10. Thank you!! I'm kind of nervous because my success with this set determines my ability to make more in the future. Your reply gives me some hope, lol. :-)
  11. Yes. In fact, that's a good idea and I can put together a free schedule that does that - so that there are two options. I'll start working on that today and will post here when it's finished. :-) I'm not sure how long it will take me as I have to think it all through...
  12. No, but now that you asked, I'll put some together and post them sometime later today. I'll put them on my website and in my store too. :-)
  13. Yes, the curriculum is for grades 1-4, but it could be adapted for younger/older. The Science of Seasons books can be used for grades 1-6, but even my highschooler and some adults learned several things from them, lol. I had some older kids "test" them too and they gave some positive feedback. So, the Science of Seasons books by themselves are for grades 1-6, but the curriculum is more for grades 1-4. :-) Let me know if you have any other questions!
  14. I've made another literature and activity based science curriculum: http://www.guesthollow.com/homeschool/science/seasons/seasons_curriculum.html It's science based but has lots of cross-curricular topics so it could be used as a "core" type of curriculum (think Sonlight, WinterPromise, etc.). It's 14 weeks long so it won't hog up your entire school year. You could even do it over the summer if you are year-round homeschoolers like we are. There are lots of books, hands-on activities, printables & videos scheduled. I also scheduled in my 2 newly published books (yeah, OK, the free curriculum will help them sell, lol): One is a heavily illustrated storybook and the other is an activity book that expands on the things mentioned or illustrated in the storybook. Some of the activities and lessons from The Science of Seasons books include: Art projects Copywork assignments Cutout playsets and figures Dot-to-dot Geography Greek & Latin roots Lapbook style cutouts Language & culture study Make your own comic book templates and cutouts Mazes Science Spelling Vocabulary activities and cutout cards ..and much more! Anyway, I'm excited about my newly published books and also about the free curriculum. :-) Thanks to everyone here for their support over the years for all my website projects! Thanks for letting me share!!
  15. Tibbie, I owe you a free book, since I went with your suggestion for my series name. PM me with your email address! :-)
  16. I'm so excited!! Both of my books are published! Thanks to all of you here who helped me make decisions about the cover, title(s), and font choices, lol. I've included a thank-you in the book dedication to the Well Trained Mind Moms!! Here they are: They are linked via my new Guest Hollow store: http://guesthollow.com/store/ I also made a free curriculum that uses them and lots of other books: http://www.guesthollow.com/homeschool/science/seasons/seasons_curriculum.html I'll post a little more about the curriculum in the K-8 board. Anyway, I'm so excited!! Thanks for letting me share and also for the encouragement and kindness I've received here over the years about all of my website stuff.
  17. That's what was throwing me. I had originally capitalized it throughout my book as I was referring to E/earth as a planet. However, the Chicago Manual of Style says: I think based on the sample sentences above that I should not capitalize it, but I go back and forth on whether I should or not. I will probably leave it lowercase as I precede it with "the". I've seen it done both ways...
  18. Are these correct? 1. What's happening in the middle of the earth around the Equator? (The Chicago Manual of Style says to NOT capitalize equator, but National Geographic Style Manual & the Council of Science Editors Style Manual says that you should capitalize equator.) 2. As the earth goes around the sun.... 3. Think about when we're in the car, it's really cold outside, and Dad turns the heater on. 4. ...when it's winter in the Northern Hemisphere... 5. The axis is just an imaginary line that goes straight through the earth from the North Pole to the South Pole. It takes the earth about 24 hours to spin all the way around once. Here are the rules I found for capitalizing earth: http://www.grammarphobia.com/blog/2013/05/earth-angles.html It's driving me nuts because I'm referring to the earth (or is it Earth, lol) as a planet, but I am using the word "the" in front of it which seems to indicate using the lowercase e just as you would use a lowercase s for the word sun as in "the sun is shining". Just want some help for my tired brain to make sure I'm not making some stupid errors. My proofreaders have not commented on these issues so I'm coming here to the all wise WTM moms.
  19. LOL, they are from an illustration inside the book the shows the path of the sun in the sky the summer vs. the path of the sun in the sky in the winter. I wanted to show kids how the sun's path is higher in the sky in the summer and lower in the winter (while explaining how the light is more direct/indirect). The white line and the picture of the sun/sky is from that illustration. I attached a crummy little screenshot of the illustration so you can see what I mean. :-)
  20. Thanks for all the feedback!!! I made some changes based on some of the things you & everyone else mentioned, like the boy's arm, the rain and the boy's eye direction. Hopefully it doesn't look like he's staring at Beowulf's rear anymore, lol (you can't tell as much with this smaller screenshot). I also moved the leaf. This morning when I was reading the replies I just about died when I figured out I had flattened my PSD (Photoshop file) accidentally. I had to recreate the entire page. It was worth doing it over though. I have to have layers to move around and I will use this cover as a future template....still...wanted to pull my hair out, lol. Anyway, thanks for the help!
