  1. In reading it the law does sound confusing. I must have read it a hundred times when we first started. Don't let it scare you away though, it really isn't hard. It breaks down to 3 options. 1. Go through the local school district - I have yet to meet anyone who has gone this route. 2. Go through the SCAIHS - They offer a lot of services, but are expensive and require testing starting at 3rd grade. They also have to approve your curriculum and require a lot of paperwork. 3. Go through a "third option" homeschool association. http://www.carolinahomeschooler.com has a lot of info on there website about third option homeschooling. There are a number of associations to choose from and their requirements depend on the particular association. The one I belong to requires miminal reporting and does not require testing. Most run about $50/year I've found...some more, some less. Summerville is a nice town. It has a lot of history, but a lot of newer areas/neighborhoods as well.
  2. Hi Amy! I'm in Summerville, SC which is about 30 minutes from Charleston. Probably about 30 minutes to Daniel Island as well depending on traffic. I've found the area to have a fantastic homeschool community. There are a number of homeschool support groups/co-ops in the area. We've been a part of http://www.teach-hs.org for 2 years and love it. Lots of things to do around here...the beach, aquarium, a childrens museum, regular museum, great libraries, tons of history, etc. Jennifer
  3. I'm outside of Charleston in the Summerville area (though I'm a Stratford High graduate...Go Knights!). Homeschooling here has been easy so far for us. Lots of things to do! We also have some wonderful support groups.
  4. I was 19/20 when I first noticed a few. Now, at 32, I have a TON of gray. Apparently, one of my great grandmothers was totally gray by the time she was 40. I have no doubt I'm headed in that direction. I die it now because it's so random, but I think if it were all over I would just let it be natural.
  5. Thanks! We have Regal and Cinemark here. I was just looking at their websites last week, but hadn't seen any info yet. I love our Regal cinema, but I'm partial to Cinemark because I worked there as a teenager. :)
  6. This thread is so helpful. :) I'm not 100% sure on everything yet, but I *think* this is what we are going to do. Reading/Phonics: ETC online, LLATL (whichever one comes after Red). This is one area I'm not certain about yet. Writing: HWT Math: Singapore 2B/3A History: SOTW 2 plus activity guide and additional reading Science: Another area I'm not sure about yet. I've narrowed it down to the RS4K Pre-Biology, Kingfisher books on Earth Science and Space, and/or kit from Young Scientists Club. Probably some mix of all of them. Spanish: Class outside of the home. This will be here second year. Language arts is where I'm really struggling to make a decision.
