  1. I have to participate. I can't let those punk teens think they can beat me on the bouncy-place inflatable obstacle course!!! I tend to participate in the physical activities and hide from the crafts.

Now me, I do the crafts & hide from the physical activity... :D

    But I'm a craft addict..

(knitting, sewing crochet quilting scrapbook, cards, drawing, coloring, painting cross stitching embroidering fool)

If you have an Alpine Slide nearby, try that though! Totally worth the humilitaion of crashing or being a semi out of shape housewife. ... I couldn't stop laughing the whole way down, even after I scraped up my whole upper leg. (Trying to go as fast as possible the first time)

  2. And this is cute, 'til the furry grands get preferential treatment over the human ones (with allergies & asthma:glare:).

Totally with you on this... I can't even go itno certain stores anymore because they are cat laden. And more and more people are treating their animals like children, bringing them grocery shopping, etc with no regard for the other humans in the store who might be HIGHLY allergic.

How horrid to lose a place in the FAMILY to an animal.. :-(

  3.

When he was finished he called me into the kitchen to try and open a drawer.

He had to show me how- it was hard to work and not intuitive. As soon as I shut the drawer the two year old solemnly, quietly, and deftly re-opened it.

LOL! Thanks for sharing, that's too funny... must've been frustrating at the time though.:lol:

I found out my 1 year old could climb when he climbed onto the table when I was in the ladie room and chucked all but 2 hand-decorated-took-all-day Easter eggs out of big bro & sis's egg cartons.

Mondays are hard. My home still is scary and my youngest is 3.

  4. :001_smile: Is the TWSS REALLY necessary or can we try SWI-A without it?

Yes, you can most likely do it before seeing TWSS. You do need to get the manual & student materials for the SWI-A cds.

Still, TWSS is worth watching & working through if you are new to the particulars of the program. It is more of a teacher's course on teaching the IEW materials.

  5. At this point a nurse or social worker should take over the child because you cannot get "informed consent" etc from such a distracted patient. It is not only the right thing to do, but you'd lose a lawsuit over any complication or side effect. Additionally, getting a careful and accurate history is *crucial* in many situations, and both patient and doctor need to concentrate. Medical care is too complicated these days for stupid errors. I cannot stress how "artful" the interview is. It is not just transmission of facts, but of unsaid information. Was the bow of the head when the word "husband" said mean her abdominal pain might be related to the bruising she has? It has to cross the doctor's mind, or it will be missed.

I totally agree with you there, but the original post merely said "He won't talk to families who have squirming, screaming kids." Maybe a better wording would've been he can't get true consent for major surgical procedures from a distracted parent, so he must ask a nurse to help for a minute.

  6. He won't talk to families who have squirming, screaming kids.

Is your Hubby a Dr? If so that is a horrible attitude to take. Not everyone can always get a person to watch kids easily or even in a true emergency.

I have a 3year old... If my husband was in a horrible car crash today, I might just have to bring him along, since my family is often either busy or out of town. It might not even be possible to get hold of anyone at the time.

If we are only talking about scheduled events, sometimes sitters cancel last minute, and none else is available. Not everyone has a network of friends who are available, not every one has a babysitter. Even people whose kids are noisy don't always have a choice to leave them elsewhere.

  7. For what it's worth, you might not want to automatically rule out the kjv. My bookish, but reading at 3rd grade level 8 year old is LOVING her kjv... we just talk about any words she doesn't understand. My other child though, needs major teeth pulling to read at all, so we went for the New King James with that one.

So I would try the version out with the kiddo prior to buying, or buy them what you want them to be able to read, and teach it slowly.

For print size, the largest you can find is so worth it! :-)

Here are a few links for a regular NLT study bible..

Maybe the best bet with your budget is to buy a used copy, I would check the isbn at addall.com

  8. subbing- We are living in a 1920's home here, and I am seriously coveting a moppable floor....

Wood looks nice, but what on earth to do to clean it? And don't get me started on the splinters & nails. Almost every floor in our home needs to be refinished. :-(

plech.. laminate or carpet for me if I ever win the lottery.

(hard to do when you don't play)

  9. You could just make your favorite quick lunch or dinner meal and serve it in the morning... We don't have to eat only certain foods before noon... :-D

Personally, I need protein in the am, but that doesn't have to be in egg form.

Stir fry with veg & meat might be yummy...or if you prefer more traditional "breakfast" foods, try a potato skillet type thing, potatoes, green peppers, Onion, with sausage that is precooked sliced into it. Add shedded cheese and melt over top.

This sounds like a fair amount of work, but it is pretty fast if you cut up the vegetables the night before.

  10. The best needles I ever bought were a set of bamboo Plymouth interchangeable tips circulars. Sizes 4-10

    http://www.knittersreview.com/article_tool.asp?article=/review/product/060309_a.asp

    LOVE THEM!

The best part is I got them for under $40 shipped... thank you ebay!

I always have the right size, and enough cable to do whatever. I have made socks, scarves, sweaters, etc without having to grab more tools. I also knti flat with circular needle, just don't join, but turn like regular

The only thing I have added is circs in teensy sizes for fancy sock knitting with thinner yarn... 1,2,3

If you ever decide to go circular, I HIGHLY recommend the two circs at once method, simple to learn, and you will never have to seam things together again. :-)

So, If these ever fail, I am goign for a similar kit.. something like this.. http://www.fabulousyarn.com/needles_exchangeables.shtml

  11. You should ask your Dr.

Usually they have a few good things to try, perhaps vitamins, diet, etc. and will not just immediately say take this pill...

I've been there, seriously irritable ALL THE TIME! Overstressed, grumpy, just feeling not me.

I didn't have a detectably low hormone level, but 3-4 months of BC pill put me back to rights.

I was able to then drop the pill & everything was normal again.

  12. Look for a house where you want to hang put... if all your friends, Homeschool buddies and church are in one city, look in that city, not 20-60 minutes away. Live where you PLAY, don't worry about living where you work, you will commute to work, but if you are tired and worn out, most likely you won't commute to PLAY.

Yard.... MUST HAVE A YARD! we didn't think about it that much... stupid stupid us. We have 3 kids under 12, and a no place to play.

At this point, I personally would like an open floor plan, so I can cook while homeschooling, but a new home isn't in our future right now.
