  1. I assumed the student pack was consumable. If not, that is exactly what I'll do! So you think level 1 will only take a few weeks? I guess I thought each level would be at least a semester to a year. what is a normal time frame for each level?
  2. I've noticed the great reviews and many users of this program so I've been reading all I can about it. I'm thinking of using level 1 with my 1st and 3rd grader next year (those will be their grades next year). My now 2nd grader is still struggling with fluency and spelling. Will this program help? My now K5'r is just learning to read and is at Bob Book level. Will level 1 be ok for him next year? My thought is if it's a good fit for both, it's one subject they can do together realizing my older ds will probably move faster. I don't want to start my oldest at too low of a level and also don't want to overwhelm my new reader. Will it help a new reader along or just confuse them? All opinions/advice welcome! :bigear:
  3. My ds is in 2nd grade but not a fluent reader yet. I would say not fluent enough for chapter books. He has read Nate the Great, Little Bear, Toad and Frog but we're sort of stuck at this level right now. Not sure how to get the fluency other than keep making him read aloud to me. Hoping it will just click! He loves the audiobooks of Magic Tree House, but haven't even thought about getting the books to see if that sparks his interest.
  4. I've heard Daily Word Problems by Evan Moor is a great supplement. I personally haven't used it but planning on adding it after new year. We are currently in Beta, but figure it's worth a shot.
  5. I have been blessed to find two other like minded families and we meet once a week to do science, art, and greek together. We meet at the same house every week and do school in the morning, eat our packed lunches, and the kids run off and play for the rest of the afternnon. It has been such a blessing to all of the families. The kids have really become such good friends and us moms get time to just sit around and talk. I don't know if you could form such a group, but it's a way to keep things laid back and not feel like just another school/support group. Also, hopefully your daughter could form a few friendships and have something to look forward to each week. I wish your family the best!
  6. I have a k5 and 2nd grader. I require 1 math worksheet (MUS), 1 page in their handwriting workbook and 1 or 2 pages in explode the code. I have it out on table for them to do when they wake up because its all something they can do without my assistance...most of the time. It truly only takes 30 mins max and we're out the door for co-op in time. As for as my kiddos, I can't get much out of them after co-op. They are just too tired and I like my boys to run and play in the afternoons.
  7. Just ran across this writing program and very intrigued! Anyone used it yet? Pros/cons?
  8. This is what I did just this year. I bought the DVD for alpha off eBay, then printed the extra practice math worksheets directly from their website. He would watch the lesson and then do worksheet. I did one lesson a day and finished in 30 days. This showed me what we needed to work on. He is now in Beta, doing fine and we still work on the facts as we go along. He is still on target to finish Beta this year as some lessons are just review for him. I will say he has not mastered his facts and is doing fine in Beta. Hope that helps.
  9. My k5 son started in book 1 and we do only about 2 pages per day. My 2nd grader is only in book 5 due to needing phonics review, but he does 4 pages per day about 3 days a week. My plan/goal is 2 to 3 books per year until they're done. I also think whatever works best for your child. It's about mastery not speed. Oh and it's book 4 some kids slip up on. Some skip it all together and come back to it after book 8. My son did fine with it but he is a bit older.
  10. Since I tend to not homeschool from one curriculum, I always worry if I'm missing something. You all seem so knowledgable and helpful, so thought I would ease my mind today! 2nd grade son: MUS Beta ETC 4-6 Reading Eggs Scott Foremans writing FLL 2 HWT 2 Sequential Spelling 1 K5 son: MUS Primer Phonics Pathways ETC 1-2 Reading Eggs Reason for Handwriting (but switching next yr to HWT) Together: Apologia Anatomy, Sing Song Greek, US Geography (do with 3 other families) Evan Moor beginners geography Positive action bible curriculum US History, Art, Music, Drama, Lego class (classical co-op 1 day/wk) Writing this makes me realize how much we do so maybe I should ask is there something major we're missing? Do know the co- op's are very laid back at this age, so things are kept fun and light. Thanks for your opinions!
  11. Oh! Someone I guess gave me incorrect information. Guess I should do my homework! LOL. Well, with that said, would I start him with WWE 1 in 3rd grade?
  12. I have used FLL 1 and going through 2 now. My ds does well with it but thinking about third grade already. I see many of you use WWE. Could I easily transition to that program? Should I? My son is not much of a writer and tires easily. Just starting to worry what will happen once we hit 3rd grade writing. Can anyone tell me the big differences in the two programs and is it easy to switch to if you didn't start out with it. Thanks!
