  1. We've only ever used the books but next year my ds asked to try the cds for Physics. We'll see how it goes..maybe I'll be looking for a used textbook to balance it out. My dd is currently doing Physical Science and I can't imagine her sitting at the computer as she needs to read and re-read the material before she feels she has a grasp of it. Blessings, Sandy
  2. The PSAT is offered in October and many students take it as a practice test in their sophomore year (or even earlier) and then take it "for real" in their junior year. A good PSAT score in their junior year can put them in the running for a Nat'l Merit Scholarship. The SAT is offered five times a year. In general, students take it in May of their junior year and then again, if necessary, in November of the senior year. The latter date allows them to get the results in time for early college deadlines. The test can be taken multiple times and only the student's best score is sent on to the colleges. HTH! Sandy
  3. We've been to Outer Banks, NC a few times and really enjoyed ourselves. We've gone in the summer months and the off season. It's busier in the summer months but still doable. The off season starts in mid-Sept. and the prices and numbers of people go way down. We rented a house but there are campgrounds with pools and other amenities and recreational fun. There are plenty of day and half-day trip destinations -- historical sights, parks, museums, aquariums, lighthouses, etc...Our vacations there have been low key, relaxing, fun family time together. Haven't been in a few years and just writing this is making me wish we could swing it this summer! Blessings, Sandy
  4. I'm another long-time lurker who comments from time to time or in mini-spurts. Now I'm joining the ranks of the gotta-reach-50 crowd (the buy and sell season being upon us) and feeling a little sheepish about posting with an ulterior motive! Blessings, Sandy
  5. My ds did Total Health last year and found it interesting. We have used the Abeka books up through 8th grade and my dc have enjoyed them as well. Blessings, Sandy
  6. A 16+ year Wahl user here. I've briefly tried a few other brands, but they didn't cut and/or feel right and had a shorter life span. With 5 heads of hair to keep shaped up, our Wahl gets a workout but holds up well.
  7. Well, this is inspiring! We are in the midst of turning our attic into livable space and we're scratching our heads about how to get more bookshelf space. I don't know about using the steps themselves but come daylight I'm going to go take a look at that stairwell and ponder the possibilities!
