I use Venmo because that's what my kids use and I can easily send them or their friends money. One annoying thing, though, about Venmo is that you have to choose to make the payments private. Default is to make them public and the payment/reason for payment will pop up in various people's Venmo "feeds".

ETA: I have mine connected to a bank account because at some point, I didn't want to send $ via the credit card because of the fees. My connected bank account is at a different bank than our other banking.

I also use Venmo for the same reason as you (send my kids and their friends $$) but I wanted to let you know you can change the privacy in the settings on the app. I also hated that the default was that all payments are public, so I went searching for a way to change it. Now my default is private payments.

  2. Thank you all! Today has been a crazy day with work and then a doctors appointment for my mom. Dh and I were kind of scrambling (which I know isn’t good when making a large financial purchase) and we went ahead and looked at financing through the dealership. We got a 2.25% rate (no 0% financing available) and when I contacted my bank, they couldn’t come close to that. We are signing paperwork tomorrow, so I hope we aren’t making a mistake by going through the dealership. Thanks again for your feedback!!

  3. We may be purchasing a new car soon and will need to finance the purchase. We have excellent credit and I know the dealership has a good offer right now (2.5%). Is this the best we could get? Where else should we look for an auto loan? We don’t use a credit union, so that’s not an option. Just want to make sure we get the best deal that we can.

I'll be the dissenter. I asked this question not that long ago and the Target Threshold ones were recommended by many. I bought a set. They are fine. The elastic seems great. The patterns/colors available are fine. They are definitely crisp/scratchy and not soft though, which is disappointing to me. I am not a fan of crisp sheets. I want super soft.  So, I am still on the hunt for sheets.

You know, I just looked at the Threshold sheets on the target website with the plan to purchase. I noticed some recent reviewers saying that the sheets had changed and no longer feel as soft as they used to feel. I wonder if the sheets are made with different materials now?

  5. @Sneezyone I love this so much!! I really (really!!) struggle with meal planning. I need to sit down and do this with my meals. I actually really like your plan, but we are trying to eat a low-ish carb diet (add in healthy carbs), so I may have to make some changes. Thank you for sharing!!!

One thing I notice about my daughter's generation is that the middle schoolers are less likely to look as awkward as we did a hundred years ago. I see many middle schoolers and they are so nicely put together. IT seems that there is a higher percentage of girls who are more aware of how to dress and do makeup and hair.

    Maybe that's just my perception,

I completely agree with this and I think it is because of the smart phone. Kids these days (geez…I sound like a dinosaur! 😂) have grown up with the ability to instantly view themselves in photos. I mean, back in my day we had to use up a whole roll of film, drop it off (or send it off), and then wait for the photos to be developed to know how we really looked. My 14 year old dd takes a beautiful photo. She knows exactly how to smile and how to position herself correctly. This is due to the ability to take a million selfies/pics with her friends. So I do think that my kids’ generation look way less awkward that my generation…back in the day….

  7. Wordle 227 2/6

    🟨🟨🟩

My best one yet, but I feel like I’ve cheated. The other day, one of my Facebook friends posted that she got the Wordle on her first try. This led to a discussion about how people choose their first Wordle word each day. Another Facebook friend happened to comment what word she uses as her first guess each day. Fast forward to today, that Facebook friend who commented what first word she uses each time posted her Wordle for today. Because I knew her first word, I was able to easily figure out todays word. So I did great, but not without help.

I love Wordle and really hope that it stays free.

  9. I just joined Planet Fitness and am enjoying it so far. I am 46 years old and lead a pretty sedentary lifestyle. I have a desk job so I’m definitely not moving as much as I should. My goals are to move more, build strength, and improve flexibility. I would also like to lose weight, but I know that weight loss happens in the kitchen rather than the gym.

My first couple of times at the gym I just did cardio and tried a few machines. I have pretty much zero gym experience, so I tried the 30 minute circuit yesterday and loved it. From reading online, I know that the 30 minute circuit isn’t the very best thing I could be doing, but I think it will help me to get started and feel more comfortable. It’s tucked away in the corner and I don’t have to think about what comes next.

My dh suggested I track my workouts. I have an iPhone and Apple Watch, so I can track my cardio workouts easily. But he said I should write the name of the machine down, how much weight, how many reps, etc. Is there an app or method I could use to do this? I really don’t want to carry a notebook around with me. I do think the info will be helpful as I move away from the circuit training and into creating my own workout. Anyone have thoughts?

I’m excited about working out and I’m actually enjoying it (somewhat - lol). Any tips, thoughts, apps, websites you could share that have been helpful to you would be appreciated!!

I canceled mine when covid came, but I liked it just fine! There is no beating the price. Even in months I skipped entirely, it was worth $10/mo.  I had cancelled my higher membership when dd kept ditching me.
I did stop using the massage chairs after being seated near a big, sweaty man with horribly offensive foot odor, and still found it worth it.

At home, I still play music and put my tv on closed captioning to get the full cardio experience, lol.

Eww on the smelly guy at the massage chairs. I can definitely see how that would be a turn off!!!

    Same here. @Just Kate

I will add that I have joint issues, and for a while my hands were seriously badly compromised. My awesome ds (then a teenager) came with me to PF and tried out all the machines. He then showed me not only how to do them, but also how I could modify some to not strain my fragile hands/wrists. This was all his idea, and I still get misty thinking of his kind efforts to help me. 🥰

So I will say that the staff at PF are hit or miss (as is the case at lots of huge places). I'm with a much smaller gym now, and the care I get at my smaller gym is incredibly wonderful. I found at PF that staff were generally willing to show how a machine works, which is helpful, but if you are feeling vulnerable at all you'll probably appreciate your dh's help?

One thing I like about PF (at least back then) was that I could bring in my own trainer and we could work out together. I never did, but I asked specifically about that option and they were clear that trainers are welcome. The trainer would come as my guest. So if you and your BF know of a trainer you like and feel comfortable with, that may still be an option.

I found it worthwhile at the time to go with the more fancy membership that gave me more options for bringing guests and for their water-massage table. It's not that much more per month. Doing it that way ensured that dh and ds could work out as much as they wanted--they only catch was that they had to go with me.

I was thinking the same…that the staff at PF are hit or miss. I could kind of tell that when I first joined. My dh is very familiar with gyms and working out. I think I will feel most comfortable talking to him about what will work best for me. But that is an awesome idea about bringing a trainer!! I’ll have to think on that/look into that.

  12. We just got a Planet Fitness in my town and my bff asked me to join with her. Neither of us exercise regularly, so we are both definitely beginners. I’ve gone twice so far (once with bff and then my 14 yo dd went with me this evening because her dance classes were cancelled). So far, I’ve only done cardio because I’m a little intimidated by the weight machines. I know that to get a good workout I will need to do strength training, so I’m either going to schedule a time for someone at PF to teach me or I will take my dh as a guest and have him show me (or maybe even both!).

Just curious to know if anyone has any experiences at Planet Fitness (good or bad) or even any other gym. I really, really want to make a change and I’m hoping I can be successful with this.

  13. I’ve never used it, but I considered it. The app reviews were horrible though, so you may want to check them out. Negative reviews saying things like - the app didn’t count all of their steps, activities didn’t translate over correctly, etc. I really liked the idea but I felt like I would just get frustrated. It was over a year ago when I looked into it, so maybe things have improved?
