  1. The woman that reviewed my children's portfolios this year had some wonderful ideas for our family! One of the ideas for me was to do a "journal" type planner instead of my tedious, "write down every page, every book used, etc." plan book that I have been keeping. This will be a big change for me, but I welcome a new format! I'm one of those ex-teachers who is still in rehab! Smiles!! Does anyone here document their children's daily learning by using a journal format? Any opinions? Suggestions? Thanks! ~Holly
  2. Someone here suggested this planner/calendar a while back. I'm wondering if anyone uses it? If so, do you like the loose-leaf or spiral bound? I'm guessing it's a matter of personal preference. https://plannerpads.com/concept.asp Thanks! ~Holly
  3. Can you make up your own? That's what I have always done. ~Holly
  4. My 9yo son will be finishing up Saxon 4/5 by the end of the summer. I'm considering using Life of Fred...but, I'm not sure I should go into Life of Fred Fractions right after 4/5...if it will be too hard...if he still needs Saxon 5/6 before moving to Fred...if I should do them together...??? If I move straight to Fred from Saxon 4/5...will he be missing something he needs? My library does not have the Fred Fractions book...so, I can't look through it. I have printed out the scope and sequence for Saxon 5/6 and the index for Fred Fractions...but, I can't get answers to my questions just by looking at that. Thanks for any input. ~Holly
  5. Everyone...thank you so much for all the opinions! ~Holly
  6. Yes, I looked over the site a bit. I found a number of the books at our library, so I'll be checking them out to look at them. Thanks! ~Holly
  7. This is what I use... http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/987304/Office-Brand-Mobile-Folding-File-Cart/ It expands into a box and the handle comes up. It's similar to a dolly. I can fit a LOT of books in there! ~Holly
  8. Thanks so much for the input! ~Holly
  9. So, is Fred more of a supplement than a stand-alone program? Thanks! ~Holly
  10. Ah...found some of them at our local library. I'll check them out. ~Holly
  11. Thanks! I did a search, but did not see an specific questions. I'll try again. ~Holly
  12. Does anyone use Life of Fred for math? My evaluator suggested that for my son when he is a little older. I'd love some feedback. Pros? Cons? It looks good on the web site... Thanks! ~Holly
  13. Has anyone stayed at either the Double Tree or The Regal Sun in Downtown Disney? My SIL and family will be on vacation at Disney next month...we always drive over there and spend a few nights in an off-site hotel. However, I have discovered some great FL resident deals at Disney hotels. There are pros and cons for each: DT: suite (larger room, microwave, frig), pool not as exciting as other hotel, $5 parking fee RS: typical hotel room, frig only, fun pool, free parking Now, my DH would prefer the larger room for the extra money...and, it's not that much more. I'm just wondering if it's really worth it. It probably it...with 5 people in our family! Any opinions on the two hotels? Thanks! ~Holly
  14. A neighbor and I were just talking about this very subject last weekend. This is the one her SIL uses: http://www.heranswer.com/progesterone_cream.asp ~Holly
  15. I wonder how long it would take to dry my own cranberries in a dehydrator? Hmmm?? Must do research! Thanks! ~Holly
  16. Forgot to answer your other questions. Just make sure you understand how the cow will be cut. It's fine to split a cow with others, but just know you might not all get equal cuts of meat. For instance...there are only 2 sirloin roasts from a 1/2 cow when buying from Peaceful Pastures. If 3 families go in to split it...someone will be without a sirloin roast...and, the other families will have to give up things to make up for it. Being cost effective...I guess that depends on how much beef you eat and how much you are paying for it. Buying a 1/2 cow from PP averages out to about $4.55 per pound. That's cost effective for me because the prices of organic meat from the grocery store are MUCH higher than that. Also, I have a friend that went in with me this time and we split a 1/2 cow. She just told me that the taste and quality of the PP meat is SO much better than the organic meat she had been buying. HTH! ~Holly
  17. Is there any place on-line where I can buy dried fruit that DOES NOT have sugar added? Thanks! ~Holly
