  1. I need to work on my stress coping skills. I think it's time to add a guided meditation that I could fit in with my morning workout or over a break at work. Does anyone have any favorites they could recommend? I'd like to start with something short (like 5-10 minutes) that I could lengthen if my time permits. I'd prefer it to be an app so I could put it on my phone to go with me.

  2. From my county court's Q&A page:

What should I wear to court?

Dress code should be business casual, but respectful of the court. Do not wear shorts, halter or tank tops, clothing that exposes the midriff, beachwear, sandals, or clothing with inappropriate graphics, logos or wordings.

  3. I won't lie. I do judge books by their covers (and gasp! I am a librarian.)

When I choose a book, in general, it's a long haul commitment- be it a stand alone title or series. I tend to read Children's and YA fiction, in general. I have no real qualms about trying to finish something I hate because curiosity kills me- maybe it will pick up, maybe the plot will sway a different way, maybe there is some kind of light at the end of this tunnel...

However, my challenge to date is Twilight. I stopped at page 28. Worst piece of crap... I don't regret that I never went back to try again (like I might do with other titles over time.) Having never read 50 Shades of Grey, I assume my personal feelings toward that title would be similar or stronger.

I do try to stick to the generic "wait til about 100 pages" rule one of my Language Arts teachers suggested. But as someone else said, life is too short for bad books. There are so many good ones waiting for you.

  4. Historically, careers like teaching, librarianship, and nursing have been seen as "Female Dominated" careers. In some decades this equated to lesser than men. When I became a Children's Librarian in the late 90s, this was discussed. It's funny to me now, 20 years later, for others to comment on it.

Whether the viewing of these careers as "roles for women" is right or wrong would probably lead to a banned discussion here.

To speak in only good ways, I like science and math are more available to girls and young women. I do not feel that boys and young men are slighted or disadvantaged by this in the least. But humankind still have much to learn about itself (unfortunately).

  5. FWIW, I loved my Krups combi and wound up buying a new to me replacement blender (my base still works fine). I couldn't decide what I wanted and in the end it cost about the same as a basic blender.

  6. The man who voiced Yakko re-wrote the song this last year to reflect the changes that have happened to the world since the first time he sang it. Apparently he's on tour somewhere singing it...

We're seeing Rob Paulsen, Tress MacNeille, and Jess Harnell in Animaniacs Live! next months. I loved Animaniacs. :)

  7. Not to mention being harassed when you are out running (or walking). "You're going to have to run faster!" "Run fatty, run!" Etc. Yelled at you from the car as they drive by. I know I'm not the only one.

;( I am so sorry this happens to you and anyone else.

My pain is being cat-called because of a big busom. For my frame, I am a work in progress. But being endowed with more than necessary brings unwanted attention. I just want to walk in peace. I am not here for your amusement and you do not need to gift me with your unwanted attentions. :eyeroll/
