The point I was trying to make about your dh seeing his mother for lunches wasn't anything but to show respect for the woman who raised him. Even if all she does is talk about herself, I really think, as adult "children" we all need to show a certain amount of respect for our parents(if those parents were abusive I reserve the right to change my opinion). Having an occasional lunch, or chat on the phone, is just the right thing for him to do.
again though, I hope this all works out for you and your family.

I would have my DH still visit or have lunch with his mother as often as he does now or at least once or twice a month...I would let my kids decide for themselves what they want to do. When I was around this woman I would be civil, courteous and that's about it.
Good luck, I am glad your mother lives close by and has a good relationship with her grandchildren...but, lots of kids either grow up away from all grandparents or with grandparents who have already passed away.

I agree that you are the mom! My kids, ds5 and dd7 are allowed only certain shows. Some on Noggin, but fewer and fewer (max and ruby is a don't miss around here) and some on PBS like Cyberchase and Arthur...and 2 on Discovery kids. That is it..well, they also watch "this old house" and other renovation show with their dad! but, that is it...nothing on that list is on, then it is time to find something else to do! I, personally, hate the cartoon network! I guess I am not alone around here!
I would say it was time to get the legos, or building blocks or dolls or trains...you get the idea!;) Good luck!

Wow! I'd be a bit ticked off and confused. We've never invited any of our relatives to do any field trips with us. Mostly because they don't live near us or I already know it wouldn't be welcome!
Feel no more guilt!

I am one more person who thinks this is totally outrageous and you should speak with the principal!

I'm laughing way too hard right now!

Good book!
Brie or Camenbert?

I know I posted that we don't have these things. we don't have any video games...we do have Reader Rabbit computer games;), and Singapore math's Rainbow Rock on the computer as well...but what are "ds" anyway? Call me out of the loop or over the hill...the last time I saw a video game I think it was "pong"! Okay, that was probably in 1980! But what does ds stand for?

I would probably either buy a game or a book. Probably historical fiction...

I vote for having her stay home that day and doing something fun with you! We don't have one either and I would be appalled! Good luck!

This may be weird but THIS is my home page!:) I've been frequenting often enough...

My ds whomis now 5 started doing Singapore math at the age of 4. The workbooks weren't much money and he wanted to do school with his older sister. I never pushed it, and some days he wanted to and other days he didn't. Same thing with phonics instruction..he sat in on all of dd's lessons so he picked stuff up. I never forced him though to do school. not until 1st grade. He makes sure he is in the room for all science history and read alouds! He disappears when handwriting is started!:001_smile:

I have assignment for them to do...so many math problems or one chapter in a reader etc...when its done it is done. If they dawdle then they don't get to any fun stuff! After trial and error i have figured out about how much dd can handle in certain areas before she gets overwhelmed and nothing gets done!
With my kids, if I just set a time, they would just sit there until time was up! But, they are still young (7 1/2 and 5 1/2).

With my kids it is a package deal as well. I wouldn't put them in that situation again and I would definately talk with E about her sister's feelings.
Good luck!

I just took mine down last week!:o I was so used to seeing it there, I really forgot all about it and didn't see it anymore...if that makes sense!

We are near the Monadnock region and get together with the Monadnock area homeschoolers...usually just a park day in Peterborough...well, once its warm! Thursday afternoons I get to chat with other hs moms! Around this area there a few hs groups, there is one in Weare, and in Hillsboro...but the Hillsboro one isn't very active.
I only heard of this show because I am on Ticketmaster's email list!

We have to do reading/phonics first because she gets very frustrated. Then we do math. After that it varies and depends upon my toddler...we save some activities until he is napping. Any crafts or science experiments have to be done when he isn't around! So, until he is older, our schedual varies quite a bit.

My oldest will be 8 in September, so I have been a SAHM since her birth. I stopped working 1 month before she was born.
We had already been married for 10 years before we had children and we planned finacially for me to stay home...We never relied on my income for major purchases, like cars or a house. My youngest is not quite 2 and unless something terrible and lifechanging happens I have no intention of going back to work!
It would be nice to try and start a small home business, but doing what...who knows!

We also have both. The kids love to hear them in the car! Dh said if he had been taught in such an interesting way he would haved loved history! If I know we will be in the car for 20 minutes or more I bring the cds with me. The kids also listen to them as bedtime stories. I have a cd player in their room and every night one of them gets to pick an audio cd. It alternates between Magic tree house, Boxcar children and SOTW!
Personally, we like the older version better just because of Barbara Johnsons voice. We have 2 with her and 2 with Jim Weiss.

Omphaloskepsis
That has been my favorite word since I was about 12. it means: meditating while contemplating ones navel.
I also like ameliorate.

Okay, I didn't notice that you are from NH. our tickets are at the Verizon in Manchester...If that makes any difference to you..I just don't like driving all the way to Boston. For us, it takes 2 1/2 hours so Manchester is much more doable!
-
I have tickets for my dd7 and ds5. Our tickets were about $35 each, the best seats were $56. I opted for cheaper ones this time. Dd is a huge dinosaur fan! We also have the whole bbc walking with dinosaurs dvd and she will watch all 6 hours at once if I let her!
As for is the live version any good? I hope so (fingers crossed). It has already toured in Australia so maybe there are reviews of it on the web...

If I could eat calamari on a daily basis, I would die a happy woman.
Me too! And why would steamed clams be weird??? Although I honestly haven't eaten one since a few years ago there was a intestinal worm in one and THAT made me gag! Yuck!

How far along are you? Can you fast forward a little bit. When we did SOTW 1 we skipped a few chapters. Actually, we also have the audio cd...so we just listened to those chapters in the car. We are doing the same with SOTW 2. I find I get a little worn out this time of year and tend to want to just drop it...so instead I just pare it down. My kids are 7 and 5. We will be doing this stuff 2 more times so what they miss now they will get again.
I haven't really answered your question though. I wouldn't stop half way through the book and then start SOTW 2, but I might skim a little more to get near the end...if that makes any sense. hope this helps some!
