  1. We have two dogs and two guinea pigs. The dogs pretty much ignore the piggies. The cage has a top on it.  I'm not sure I would have piggies if I had a cat.  I would leave the piggies in a separate bedroom with the door closed if we did have a cat.  I suppose each animal is different with different personalities.

  2. I have used MUS from K to Pre-Calc. I would not call it light. My oldest son graduates college in marketing this Spring. He took multiple college level math classes and did well in them and MUS helped him with his college math classes. I have two other sons who are very intelligent in math and all because of MUS.  I love MUS and so do my kids. I wouldn't use any other math program.

  3. I saw it earlier today.  I didn't like it.  I don't think I'm giving away any spoilers to say:

    1. way too many ridiculous unbelievable special effects (someone above mentioned ninja elves, yep)

    2. way too many things that are different from the book.  REALLY different.

    3. way too much of an attempt to tie in to the LOTR trilogy - adding multiple characters from LOTR, having Gandalf running about the countryside, a scene in the Prancing Pony, etc.

I'm glad I only paid $5 because it was before noon.

Yes, I totally agree! We liked the first one, but was disappointed with the second book. It greatly strayed from the book. It was waaaayyyy overkill on Orc killing! The second movie was missing the humor and light-heartedness that the first one had.  Some major parts from the book were left out. We spent $10 a piece for the ticket and it was a waste of money.  Not to mention there were 19 minutes of previews and commercials before the movie even started!! Just bummed this movie didn't live up to book!

  4. And It took having someone else point it out to me that in that one he does say there was physical contact.

what is sad he still does not ask for prayers for her,  just his family, the board and the other men who make up the staff.

    sickening.

Its disgusting. It went on for so long (10 years) and with a young girl. His whole resignation letter is so "me" oriented.  He manipulated, violated and took advantage of this girl yet his letter seems to be all about him. Its so sad.

I'm still on my quest of looking at grammar and writing programs in high school. I think my ds needs some help in this area. I have used BJ in the younger years through 6th grade, but then stopped and tried some other stuff in jr high. Have you used BJ Grammar for high school? How were the writing assignments for high school? I looked at the samples on the BJ website and it looked promising. Please tell me your opinion. Thanks.

  6. I laughed when I saw the 3 programs in your title as I just got 2 of the 3. I just bought Jensen's, Wordsmith Craftsman, and EPS Writing Skills Level 3 to evaluate for using with DD. She's a reluctant writer who is finally improving after using an earlier EPS Writing Skills level followed by Jump In. All three of my recent purchases are marketed for high schoolers but the EPS book looks much more basic (lots of hand-holding and still using small incremental steps). I decided to have DD run through this one quickly and finish the book in one semester.

Meanwhile, Craftsman sort of scared me off and made me decide to wait another year before tackling that. I'm not sure DD is ready for it.

I haven't finished reviewing Jensen's yet but I think we'll use it next, after EPS. Maybe by then we'll be ready for Craftsman. :glare:

Have you done your review of Jensen's yet? I'd like to hear it.

  7. Jensen's Format Writing is as dry as dust, but it's also very easy to see what you're learning. Dd didn't finish this, but did work with it. The two WordSmith books we have used (not the Craftsman) didn't do much with formal writing. We didn't like Writing Strands enough to continue into the high school level (or even middle school level); dd did all of 3 and part of 4. I haven't seen EPS.

I have two of the MCT writing books which we're using this year, and so far I like them the best. My middle one is doing Essay Voyage, which is the first in the essay writing level. It focuses on formal writing, which is quite disciplined, and on writing well. Because we have one dc at a time using it, we bought the TM, since the student text is included in that. We have tried other things, too, prior to the high school level, but none of that would be pertinant here.

    Whats MCT?

  8. I have been using MUS for 7 years and love it. Oldest d, 13, however,

is having a hard time understanding decimals and percents along with

fractions. We took 1.5 years to do Epsilon with lots of review. Now

he's over half way through Zeta and still making tons of mistakes. We

rewatch the DVD lessons over and over. We review, but he still

struggles with it. He's frustrated. I'm frustrated. My other sons are

doing great in math and also love MUS. I'm thinking of trying another

math program with oldest ds, but not sure what to try. MUS is all I've

    used. Any advice appreciated?
