10 Good
  1. My daughter took the ACT last year, 10th gr, and scored 19. She took it this year, 11th gr, and scored 22. I am pleased.
  2. DD got her driver's license. She is 17. We have Geico auto insurance and can get a discount if DD has a "B" average. They won't accept her grades because she is homeschooled. They will only accept a standardized test that shows her grade point average since she doesn't attend public school. What to do? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
  3. TT Geometry!! DD cried her way through Alg. 1 & 2 (TT), but she is a Rockstar with Geometry! She is taking a one semester writing class with "Write at Home" and this is a nice addition to her schedule. Someone on this board recommended this (can't remember who) and we are very pleased. She is right on schedule with all her classes. DD is a Junior and these are our two things that are a big hit this year!
  4. Between this A&P course and Art Appreciation there is a LOT of a la' naturel study this year. You've definitely gotta be comfortable with the body to make it through these courses. These are both somewhat "R" rated courses, better suited for home study than a classroom setting, IMO. We just blush, giggle, and move on. It helps to keep a sense of humor as we study.
  5. We are using this book along with the Princeton Review Anatomy coloring book. I'm afraid I'm not much help since I am making plans barely a week ahead for each chapter. Do you have the workbook for the book? We are using it to supplement. I don't know how much we will cover but I THINK we should be able to cover the entire book. My dd is in the 11th gr. She is enjoying this study so much more than the Biology course she took last year. YEAY
  6. After reading the responses I have signed my daughter on for a semester. It looks like what we are looking for. Thanks everyone!
  7. I've been looking at the "Write at Home" online teaching program for my 11th grade dd, for one semester. I would like to have her writing evaluated & guided by someone other than me, at least for a bit. Is anyone familiar with "Write at Home"? Thanks.
  8. I have found the text and workbook online but am wondering if there is a separate answer book available or are their answers in the back of the workbook? I definitely need ANSWERS.
  9. I'm going online now to find that curriculum. Thank you so much for your recommendation. This is our 2nd yr to homeschool and I am not familiar with a lot of different curriculum. I get so much good info from this Board. Thanks again.
  10. I'm looking for curriculum and coming up with NOTHING for A & P. Apologia is not a good fit for us. I looked at Biozone website, but their material seems dull, but I could be wrong about this. Has anyone used Biozone before? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  11. My DD took the test, minus the Writing portion. Received scores in the mail last Fri. Rec'd email about the online grades today.
  12. We used Walsh Power Basics. My dd enjoys workbooks and this worked great for us. We also used "The History of US" DVD's ordered from the History Channel. This curriculum stands alone nicely but can easily be embellished with extra reading material, ie biographies.
  13. IF she does have a LD in math, what would you do differently? If that should be the case she needs lots of encouragement and assurance that she is not defined by her math ability. Perhaps you could talk with a counsellor/advisor at the college she wants to attend. They might be able to advise you. There is no shame in taking a remedial math course and Community Colleges usually offer them. Maybe she could even audit the class. She might do better if the pressure was off. I had lots of problems with math courses when I was a kid though I excelled in all things pertaining to English and language arts. Everyone is different. Don't be discouraged. Math skills are not a deal-breaker in a person's life. She is fortunate that you are willing to try different approaches to help her in the learning process. Way to go, Mom!
  14. TT Geometry is what we are planning to use next year for dd; 11th gr. DD doesn't like math at all but she survived (and grasped) Alg 2 w/TT last yr. I am not a math person so dh tutors her in the evening as needed. He doesn't have a lot of time so this has worked fine for us so far.
  15. Apologia biology did not work well for us. We stuck with it for the entire year because we had paid too much for it to discard it. We made it work by supplementing it with the Khan videos which are free online. No more Apologia for us.
