  1. Oh- I forgot-If you go to the site - you can see a sample of the different programs- I had my son sit through 2 different lessons and look over the sample notes before we made the decision to invest the money into the program. :) Hope this helps.
  2. Though I have not used them yet- I did purchase the Chemistry to use with one of my sons this year. I purchased it directly from Red Wagon. When I went on the site today to look to see when the chemistry will be shipped I looked into the Biology -you can still purchase Honors Biology dvd's for $150. - IF you have 1st edition - they have clearance videos for $100 in General Science, Physical Science, Biology, and Marine Biology. We are looking into the online accelerated 16 week course for Physical Science too. I too would like to hear from someone who has used the program to see how they scheduled it in, if it helped with the experiments, and what kind of support was given with the downloaded programs and online classes- Lisa:)
  3. Hi- I am new to the forum and I was wondering if you could tell me a little more about the Barton program. My 15yr dd has a developmental disorder and reads at a 1st-2nd grade level. We have done Edmark and Reading Mastery with our local school but both programs have shown little to no lasting results. Do you think Barton could help her? and where can I find more information about the program. Thanks Lisa
  4. ? did your children like the dvd's and how long did it take with the text to complete?

We ordered Chemistry for my oldest after he tried the demos- My youngest wants to do physical science in 16weeks that is why I am looking for the set.

  5. Does any one know if the tests from the newer Wordly Wise 3000 books correspond with old? I have an older edition Book 4 (7th Grade) that I can not find tests for anymore. Thanks
  6. Does anyone know if the tests correspond from 2nd edition with the old Wordly Wise 3000 books- I have a Wordly Wise 4 book (which is 7th grade) but can not find tests for it?
  7. Has anyone ever used the Abeka Lab Videos? - I have used Abeka in the past for science. My friend who uses the DVD's told me to look into the Lab video program for my youngest son.
  8. Microchem has a great set ready to go- it is about $113 Home Science Tools Catalog. But we are using it for Advanced chem too- I just had to buy a few more chemicals.
  9. Hi- I too have a child that has too many labels and the behaviors that go along with them. But I can honestly tell you that now that he is 17- I really enjoy being around him. Though he still misses social cues. (Thank-God he has a really nice boss- who works with him on appropriate behaviors in the work place.) We tried the Asperger's support group here but found that he really didn't fit in- I think he was too hyper and talkative at time that we tried. He has calmed down a lot since he started High School Courses and has a plan as too what he wants to be when he grows up. :) He is very creative and smart too. However, some of the Groups refered written resources were very helpful. Tough Kid by Susan Sheridan and Social Skills Training by Jed Baker are very good. Something my friends remind me of routinely is: Would you rather have your child have a lot of superficial aquaintance friends or a few really good friends that will stick by your child even letting him know when he is out of line. I hope this helps-Lisa
  10. I have a reluctant writer. I am going to be trying iew-c with him this year. He is a strong reader. In the past, we have used Learning Language Arts through Literature and supplemented with easy grammar and Vocabulary from the Roots. But his writing skills are weak. So my question is how do I encorporate grammar into iew program and and what should I use? Thanks for the information.
  11. Hi- my son (17) has reading problems- we use Teaching Company High School Great Courses- These are instructor presentation dvd's. The instructor suggests using Story of America. It has been going very well- This comes with a workbook. Steck Vaughn also makes a series that has all the information they need but is at an easier reading level. Land of Liberty is the series. I have not tried the others recommended. Good Luck. :)
  12. hi-I have read most of the responses :iagree:- the Early Intervention Programs ran by the schools are very good- The Service Coordinators try really hard to match mentor parents that have gone through the process before (their child may not have the same disorder) Use those mentors. My daughter's disorder is so rare that when she was diagonised. We could not find anyone in the United States with it. Our Pediatrition put us on The list and found some parents in England that had a child with the same disorder. Over time we have found quite a bit of information about her disorder (esp. Since they mapped the Chromosomes) The following link is one I recommend they provided the most information and have been very supportive. http://www.chromodisorder.org/CDO/ God Bless You. Lisa :grouphug:
  13. Hi- Thanks- We used math u see classics when he was younger- But they did not have enough practice for him. He understands the concepts but since he has adhd- He forgets steps easily- I just don't know of any programs out there other than Saxon that will give him the extra practice yet hold his attention. IF you have any ideas or know of other programs let me know- Thanks :)
  14. I am trying to figure out what I should use for my sons- I have been using Saxon Algebra - my oldest has had a really hard time while his younger brother (who is 2yrs younger) is whizzing through is brothers book- Should I seperate the two and put one in Geometry and the other in Advanced Algebra? And has anyone worked with the DVD's are they a help and which ones did you use- We have the Teacher's cd-roms and while it helps my oldest he gets bored with them- is there something else out there that would help but is short and sweet? Thanks L
  15. Sugar products and pop only hype my son up more. At 13, he asked if he could go off his meds. We found a ADHD website in ADDitude. The biggest thing the site said was to push more fresh veggies and fruits and to make sure to eat lots of foods with omega 3 and 12. Cutting down on the processed foods and eating more omega rich foods has helped a lot. We also use an excerise ball instead of a chair. I will say since he has hit puberty he has calmed down a lot.
