  1. I am from Colorado but we are one the western slope so 5 hours away....boo!! Hope you like Colorado.
  2. I would say look into a private speech therapist. My boys are in 1st and 2nd and have been in ST for 3-4 years now and it is through the PS and it is the biggest waste of time for them. We hired one through our local hospital and she is great with them and they have improved tremendously. My cousin has problems also and he sees another one at another hospital and it is remarkable what they have done for him. Our school tried to play the special class card but they have to first test them and then have a IEP meeting and go over the results but they couldn't prove my boys had problems other than language because they tested in everything in the next grade level.
  3. I am in Colorado too and our school district is more worried about hours so this year they are trying 720 hours for 12 months (july to july).
  4. Do they really need something like HWOT? They used HWOT in preschool and liked it okay but I think my second son hates to write because of it. He hates forming and he only wants to write in uppercase and they really pushed lower case in preschool so he was ready for PS. Being they both know how to write and write pretty good, 2nd one probably could have more practice, should I just skip the practice and have there practice be FLL and WWE?
  5. Maybe I am not alone :001_smile: I keep telling myself that my older son picked up on things a little faster but he is also 6 month older when it has came to potty training, starting preschool and learning how to read and write so maybe his little mind just hasn't been ready yet and it is hard for him. I am thinking he will really benefit from one on one with me :D
  6. I looked at ETC and I just wasn't sure it was right for him. I did just buy MCP so I am hoping that works.
  7. I have been wondering if more repetition is really what he needs than anything.
  8. a child that says he can't remember something that just took place? My middle son will turn 6 this week and this last year of school had been hell for him. He will do a concept or maybe a sound over and over and has been fine with it and then out of the blue (even if he said it 5 minutes before) will say he forgot and can't remember. His PS K teacher would want to pull her hair with him this last year. So I have Phonics Pathways, OPGTR, but have seen the 100 EZ lessons or is there something else that would work with this forgetfulness or is he conning us??
  9. I am curious now. We plan on starting it this fall. I didn't know they had new edition coming out.
  10. Thank you, I will look into this Living Learning Books. I was really wanting a little more detail with coloring and such so this really helps THANKS. Also Thanks Mendy for the input on the books I am thinking I will go with the Kingfisher.
  11. My son is going into 2nd and this a HUGE reason why I want to homeschool. THANK YOU for reminding me.
  12. I am thinking of this year we will do the WTM science for my boys. It recommends using the DK First Animals Encyclopedia and Kingfisher First Human Body Encyclopedia Then when I went and looked at the different encyclopedias they have I seen that Kingfisher has a First Animals also and that DK has a Human Body one too. So do you guys use what they recommend in WTM or would you even look at the other ones? Also if you have the other one could you tell me what is really different or if one has more detail or what. THANKS!!!!!
  13. I have been wondering the same thing. My 7 year old wanted to know how to write in cursive but I am not sure he is ready. I have taught him how to write his name so far and he thinks it is so cool!!
  14. We are just starting hs and I was just going to use our dining room. Then I got a bookcase and started putting their books on it and then I started to feel overwhelmed!!!! So I cleaned out our spare room and now we have a school room and the boys LOVE it in the room. They can go and pull out a puzzle and if it don't get done then they can leave it on the art/craft/project table and not have to worry....also our youngest two are 2 1/2 and I was having a hard time trying to figure out if they would leave their brothers alone when they need to do their work.
  15. I was wondering the same thing. When I looked at the Evan Moor I seen it started with teaching them how to read maps, addresses and things like that so I thought it something to help them understand these essential things.
  16. THANK YOU ALL for the replies!! I am planning on using PP and OPGTR together and then moving on to FLL and then WWE. Yeah I feel like I would overwhelm them if I did them at once....I do have some practice with writing for my 1st grader, he hates to write so we will work on that. I also bought Sonlight 1 readers so we will do that. How long do you read a day? I am thinking that 15 mins a couple times a day is all my boys will do right now without wondering. I see that someone recommended AAS. Is there anything other ones that are good so I could look them all over at once? I had read that they don't recommend spelling till kids are reading and understanding sounds. My oldest started in the first of 1st in PS and has done great so I am wanting to keep doing it with him at least.
  17. I didn't know that I will have to look at that. Thanks
  18. 2001 I hated high school. To much for drama :) I went to school in a rural area and we had nothing for great classes. The extent was advanced English. It was pretty wasteful 4 years, I did what I had to do to graduate and that was about it. my grades were not much over C or B if lucky. Mandi loving her boys---Ozzi 7, Bam 6, Dax and Vin 2 1/2
  19. I have found this to be very true. I am friends with my sons now ex PS kindergarten and she is very critical of what I would have to say or what is going on. She feels like I have no clue what I am doing. :D
  20. We have decided to homeschool our boys. They are going to be going into 1st and 2nd grades. I have planned everything I can think of but would like some insight of what I might add or if you might think something isn't enough for an area will you please let me know. SOTW 1 with activities Daily Geography Evan Moor-I do have one for each of their grades but am thinking we are going to start with 1st grade since they never had it on PS. FLL, Writing with Ease, OPGTR, Phonics Pathways-we are going to start at the beginning and work through since this was a lot of the reason for pulling the boys out of PS. I did get them some extra writing books (mostly for my second grader) Singapore Math-I made sure I got all the IP and extra problems and then have a couple other books so they can practice. Beginner Science but am wanting to get R.E.A.L science life and Earth & Space. Also have Daily Science Evan Moor for them to work with Building Spelling Evan Moor-each of their grades- What is recommended at each of their levels for spelling? We are going to be doing some kind of art at least once a week and then they each have sports they go out for. Am I missing anything? I just am not sure. Thanks Mandi Loving my boys--Ozzi 7, Bam 6, Dax and Vin 2 1/2
