  4. How many years have you been homeschooling- I was hoping the urge would subside the longer you had homeschooled! This is only our third year; but my kids are older too
  5. Last November I had surgery. During surgery I stopped breathing, when they ventilated me, it inflamed my trachea, started wheezing after surgery. The next week , the flu went through our house. Then my normally low blood pressure spiked. With the new year, my healthcare reimbursement reset and after three weeks of migraines and vomiting, I went to my physician. He sent me to a pulmonologist and a neurologist. The neurologist ordered an MRA/MRI and they found an aneurysm. The pulmonologist ordered a sleep study and found I have apnea. I began to feel like I had lost control. The physician then referred me when my labs revealed a defieciency in Vitamin D/ B vitamins . . . Sorry so long- but I said all that to say I didn't know that Vitamin D played such an important role in your auto-immune system.
  6. I talked with the leader today and we need ideas of how to address the discipline issues in the co-op. Any ideas?
  7. I have been getting progressively worse healthwise. Today I saw a naturopath ( referred by my regular physician) and I am so pleased, she seems to get the whole picture of what is going on not just a piece of it - Now if I can only be faithful and make the changes I need to - I finally have hope - anyone else there with me- You need to make changes or are making changes?
  8. I confess since the computer is no longer hooked up to the printer- I don't do so; however, I save an abundance of e-mails.
  9. How do I correct the thread title to say Map Trek instead of Map Tek?
  10. Not usually as a whole although there is always one or two that mouth off. My kids say that much does not get done in their class with the older group as well- this is our first year so I didn't know what to expect; however I am thinking it is not worth the time or money put into the co-op I teach writing but I have the younger kids- not much interest this semester in writing with the older classes and they have conflicts with art and drama My youngest never wants to go and since the lab was cancelled today- only one son accompanied me to help with PE - the other two sons stayed with a friend who usually watches them if I have to be gone
  11. The website is knowledgequestmaps.com- if you already have purchased 1-4 ebooks you receive a discount on the new cd being released April 1st I wonder if anyone had purchased the ebooks already and could tell how this differs from her blackline maps of the world . . .
  12. Have you ever looked at Jackdaw's primary history resources or consider using a book like David Mc Coullough's ( I think I spelled it right) 1776 - another possiblity is Learning Through History Magazines ( I think they may be going out of print, though)
  13. We tried Saxon, Teaching Textbooks, Critical Thinking, and finally settled with videotext very slowly I might add ( I know you said you already tried that) - I think the key is to keep trying until you find a good fit and always buy your curriculum used!
  14. of the new map trek product discounts at Knowlege Quest/Bramley Books or has anyone purchased the e-books - can you tell me what you think?
  15. Today I substituted for a regular teacher in the co-op - the kids were very disrespectful even though I usually assist the regular teacher - I did not have advance warning that I would be leading so that contributed to my unpreparedness- I feel like pulling my kids from the co-op; but I try to stick with my committments - has this ever happened to anyone else out there?
  16. I once owned The Reading Teacher Book of Lists or The English Teacher Book of Lists book that had a writing historical fiction project in the back. Does anyone know of a similiar resource as I have long since misplaced that book?
  17. We have used Sonlight alt 7, 100, 200, and 300 I am probably skipping 400 and doing a more condensed American govt and then doing British Literature- I taught British Literature and just can't resist - I love Sonlight for the book lists- I think the key to High School with Sonlight to transistion from mom directed to more independent work- having said that we have found it easier to use Queen homeschool literature studies some this year- because of the way they are laid out per lesson -what to accomplish
  18. we have enjoyed the Stickfiguring through Biblical Feasts and Holidays- a 13 week study by Grapevine studies as well as A Complete Guide to Celebrating our Messiah in the Festivals by Eagle Wings Education

  22. we do have the first edition - is there a way to update without buying a whole new set- also since this is still not completed - what do you think of finishing to module C and then switching to Life of Fred
  23. Thank you for the info-I was able to remove our information
  24. It is hard for me to totally relate as I have all boys -no girls so I can't answer your question about girls being mean at a particular age; but I can relate to others' reactions to your child's "giftedness" It is hard and I am sorry you are feeling isolated in that regards- I wish I had just continued to do what you are doing now- giving her opportunities to explore language, etc. In my book that is truly homeschooling when you make it more of a natural extension of your lives. I wouldn't suggest "doing school" - you may want to explore the Charlotte Mason style of education- it is a very gentle approach to homeschool as a lifestyle. My boys' independence from me in the process of learning sometimes bothers me- especially as a former teacher Hope this encourages you
  25. We finished Videotext Algebra and my two boys started Geometry- did anyone find that the Geometry videotext does not explain the lesson as well as the Algebra- my boys keep "complaining" that it is so
