  1. I liked the Lukeion logic course; last year, tried Memory Academy (with my second son) and canceled the second semester. I think all kids will do Lukeion logic and add online courses like MIT or Harvard. That's what Lukeion's teacher suggested.
  2. Thanks! Yes, it's amazing how fast the colleges are changing the policy.
  3. Do you know if open courses have any bigger discounts during the year? I bought several courses today for $5-10 each, and 170 is too much for us.
  4. Thanks, Farrar. I do understand that kids are different, and what is possible for one is impossible for another. A couple of days ago, I found photos of my kids building Legos for 18+ at 3 years old. I have a 6yo, who is very smart, but she would never build anything close, just for 6+. I think he will try it since so many people have amazing reviews and experience. Thanks a lot for sharing your experience and what you got from the students you work with. It's very helpful.
  5. Thanks for your reply! The teacher approach is out of the question. He will have sports, AP BC, Physics 2, CS, and others, and prefers self-paced courses. I can grade if there is a detailed rubric and answers (he had honors physics with CTY, and his first lab was 65, I did not understand anything, and my physics was not in English and at school 30 years ago), but I graded thousands of students' assignments, so all the rest labs were 100, and the teacher wrote he was the only one in 5years of teaching physics at college who was writing at this level. The problem with assignments is that they are unclear, do not teach how to write, but a list of go where I do not know where and bring me something I do not know what. When the students get clear requirements, everything is easy. Thanks for the link, I see they have answers, so he will try.
  6. Could you please advise? If I do not have any idea about chemistry in English, will there be any help in grading (answers, solutions, rubric, etc. - anything that I could know if he is doing it right or wrong)? Thanks for help!
  7. I paid, but did not get anything in a month, and Paypal returned the money. I would think of Singapore, but the ones from there, not the American version. I noticed the Russian and Singaporean math are very alike, and I was wondering who copied whom. I ordered from SAP—you can google it.
  8. Thanks a lot to everyone for sharing your paths! It's so helpful and generous of you!
  9. I have a kid out of 4, who has downloaded all the browsers, and hacked all the passwords I made up - now my husband says I should work in security since I change them and no one can guess - it's like a game for him)) but I love iMac with its restrictions and hate windows for all the possibilities)) I also noticed that being in a challenging environment helps a lot. He started debate and fencing, where all the kids are Asians and very hardworking. It changed him too, compared to acting classes with 2GPA most. I think it's one of the traits of homeschooling and nowadays life, some kids are more strong-willed and resistant. But since we do not have TVs, blocked social media, and many websites, YouTube, it's much easier))))
  10. I bought this one, I wanted to save some money before, but he could not do the necessary stuff for AP stat with the calculator for $40-60. Now, it's much easier, he says.
  11. I started with myself—no Facebook, YouTube, etc. When kids ask for some games, etc., I ask if they want me and Dad to sit and watch instead of taking care of them and working. They do not ask these questions after that. I do not know any other way except for my own example.
  12. Thanks, everyone, for sharing your path! The old posts are priceless and are so helpful!!! Thanks a lot for taking the time to go deep in detail.
