We are going to try physics next year for my rising 4th grader. He is very science oriented as well (loves history too). I bought the e-book a few weeks ago, but just printed it out last week. I like what I see. I seems well organized and doable. The lessons seem to be just enough, but there are recommendations for those who would like to dig deeper. I really like the projects throughout. I think ds will really enjoy that aspect of it, and it will be a good change for him. We've had a dud of science this year. We'll finish our current program, but we will gladly move on from it.

I'm interested in possibly adding notebooking for my upper grammar kiddo. I think he is ready it. I just need help visualizing it before I jump in. I really would like to see a few blogs where others share what they do, how they do it, and some lovely examples would really be nice, too!

Subscribing as well.

Voices...yes, I know it's silly, but my kids love it! We say it like mouse, with squeaky voices, whispers, low voices, whatever. Sometimes we don't need the repetition and just move on. But when we do, we try to have a little fun with it!

Spring is always hard for me with allergies. One thing that does help is local honey. I take a teaspoon a day. I've noticed a tremendous difference since I started doing this a couple of years ago.

I think it's possible to be ready by June. I'm on week 7, and according to my pedometer I'm really close to 5K already just by running 25 minutes. I've never been able to run for that long or that far! Granted, if I'm pushing the jogger I'm much, much slower. I've found the program manageable and not too much to frustrate me. I think you could do it!:001_smile:

We used them for core 2 (don't know the new name), and we really liked them.

We started with Y2 Unit 4.

We've been watching for over a week now! We're hooked! :001_smile:

We are watching them too! We've been watching since 7:30 this morning! :lurk5:
We are trying to figure out what the male eagle brought to the nest. Is it a dead duck?

Take this with a grain of salt b/c we are only starting our 2nd TOG unit, but I spent about $100 on books for our last unit. I found someone here that sold me almost all of the UG/LG books. I just added a few here and there. For our current unit, I'm substituting a bit by topics. I'm a little more comfortable doing that now that I have a unit under me. I have $75 worth of books for our next unit in my cart from Amazon. I have found a few books on paperbackswap, maybe not the exact book, but definately something I can substitute with. The rest I'll get from the library. It may not be the exact book, but topic wise it will work.

I like it too. But I had issues yesterday trying to put things in my cart. I had about 10 things in my cart, searched for something else, and then my cart had 2 things in it. Still haven't figured out what happened, but when I came back later to try again, it did the same thing!:001_huh:

I can't answer your question on Writing Aids, but I can the one on changing computers.
We just recently purchased a laptop, but my DE is on our destop. On TOG's site there is a form you sign stating you are only using the DE format within your family. Look under "help and FAQs". Then scroll down till you see forms. There is a form there that gives you another license. After you fill out the form, all you do is download the products you've already purchased to your new computer.

My kids don't share towels or wash rags. They are color coded--one blue, one green, one pink. It saves on the fighting of "I wanted the _____ towel." They know their color and that's it. They do share toothpaste, but not toothbrushes or hair brushes. They boys have color coded combs, and dd has her own brush. They all share the shampoo and soap.

No way! That's exciting. I guess you heard it on the forums? I'm not there as much as I used to be. That's awesome!
I'm not there much either since we aren't using it anymore. I got an email from SL yesterday announcing it.

Sonlight is about to start carrying it as well.

I wouldn't buy the evaluations for lower grammar either. Use your time to have fun and just develop a love for history. I would definately order map aids. Writing Aids could wait especially if you are using FLL and WWE.

I guess i'm afraid to leave SL for fear my dd will miss some great books. I just have to let that go. I suppose she's not really getting anything from the books if she's only half interested....if at all. I have no idea why Sonlight has such a hold on me.
Thanks,
Sandy
I felt this same way. Making that leap was very difficult for us especially since I had been using SL from the beginning. We finally dropped SL 15 weeks into core 3. It just wasn't working for our family. We are much happier, learning a lot, and doing okay without SL books for history (although we are catching some here and there). In fact, we've discovered a few others out there that we like just as much! :grouphug:

I'm Central Texas too but in theTemple/Belton area.

I've started buying these for my TOG units. I have to label the tabs by week myself. I find they are much more durable, but what I truly love are the pockets. I've printed out all the maps for each week and just stored them or anything else for that week plan in the pocket with the divider.

I'm looking a coupon code for insect lore. We are going to raise butterflies again, but boy! are those boogers pricey to ship!
Anyone have one they'd share with me?:001_smile:

My friend who rocks TOG (she's my TOG and WTM hero lol) does both. She does Writing Aids but she also has her girls outline and write from a history encyclopedia as part of her TOG. She also does narration, etc. from their history. She also has her girls outline and write for science as well. She likes Writing Aids a lot but is a WTM person as well. What she does has created amazing writers (IMO anyways).
I'd love to pick your friend's brain for awhile.;)
Does this awesome friend have a blog? :D:lurk5:

Found them! Thanks, ladies!:grouphug:
Trelease's Read-Aloud Handbook
in K-8 Curriculum Board
Posted
I got my copy off of paperbackswap. I like it and am glad to have it for reference. Just pulled it again this week looking for a read aloud to tie us over until the next one picks up in our curriculum.
