I don’t think tolerance has ever fully been realized here. I know, though, in the late 80’s - early 90’s people started talking about tolerance as a desirable trait and that accelerated after 9/11, believe it or not. But, I think perhaps a lot of people confused tolerance with endorsement.

Hmm… I don’t think my Muslim friends would agree with your post 9/11 assessment…

  2. Haven’t read all the replies so maybe it has already been asked. Can she wear them? I didn’t have twins, but used to wear a toddler who could only sleep on my back and a baby on my front. They’d sleep soundly and I’d go for a walk or sit on a stool and read.

  3. Congratulations! Just in case you’re not aware, border collies that aren’t well-trained can sometimes nip little ones, probably because they’re trying to herd them. It isn’t that they’re not good with children (IME they are very protective), just that they’re trying to control them. Just FYI.

Have you read this book:  Rena's Promise: A Story of Sisters in Auschwitz?  I read it recently and thought it was excellent.

ETA - The Choice by Edith Eger was very good too but not as recent of a read for me.

I have not, but I will. Thank you for the recommendations.

  5. @Spryte @Kassia  I waited for months to get it from the library. When it finally arrived, I read it and immediately bought my own copy. I am not generally a fan of the graphic novel, but I am so... happy? no...honored? ...humbled? ...proud? to have But I Live on the shelf next to Maus and March.

  6. Did you know that the month of May is Jewish American Heritage Month? I had no idea. Apparently it has been since George W declared it so in 2006.

In honor of JAHM, I'd like to recommend the wonderful, brilliantly done book But I Live: Three Stories of Child Survivors of the Holocaust. The stories are told in graphic novel form. There are three graphic novellas, then a history of each, words from each former child, and then an explanation of how the project came to be and a bit about the artists' process. It is more gentle than Art Spiegelman's Maus, and entirely appropriate for older children as well as adults.

We are in this huge and I mean huge waiting room by ourselves, and these two guys sat back to back to us and I’m ready to choke them. You know on tv, when a person fantasizes they do something crazy like leaping over the chair and choking someone, that’s me right now. They are just talking away about what ladies prefer in bathrooms when camping, going to a bar, shopping, etc. I might lose my mind

😬 May I suggest getting up and finding different seats rather than murder? (Although I understand the impulse!)

Hope you get more good news at the checkup.

  8. In addition to RMP, you can see if the school has course evaluation reports available. These would probably only be available to matriculated students. Another resource is Facebook parent groups from that school. It’s astounding how involved parents are in their students undergraduate careers! I’ve definitely received good info on profs and courses from some of these parents.

  9. I say make your life easier and get a scale. 😉

I’m not going to delve into the math because I’m sure it has been well covered. I will, however, assure you that even if your conversions are off, it’ll all work out just fine. It’s cooking, and you’re the boss. Don’t be constrained by someone else’s recipe.

Yes,  but the honors course was miles above the regular level. No comparison. Many of our graduate students have trouble with those problems.

(EtA: she had also taken physics 3, intro to modern physics, during highschool.)

If DS had to do it again, this is the approach he would have gone with, @Porridge—regular and then honors. I think an intro calculus-based physics class is a good idea. DS went straight into an honors class that used the K&K book regentrude mentioned, and it was extremely difficult w/out having had an introduction.

As for "selective" colleges… I think there are better ways to choose colleges than by what their acceptance rates are. A low acceptance rate is not an indication that a school is better and a higher acceptance rate doesn’t mean a school is worse. With minimal research, we sadly learned that highly coveted schools are sometimes that based on a reputation that is no longer deserved. ie there are better ways to choose schools than simply looking at  US News or Forbes or whatever rankings.

... There are just now words nor understanding on how this continues to happen.

I think everyone knows how this continues to happen. The question is why we allow it to.

I'm very sorry that this has happened to your community, ScoutTN.

😂 Well, we've been enjoying Stromae (started with Alors on Dans, but can't get tired of Tous le Memes - amazing! and Ta Fête) and , Black M (started with French Kiss, Sur ma Route, and On S'Fait Du Mal, but really like the video for La Légende ), and Maitre Gims (particularly Malheur, Malheur <Woe, woe>) I think these would all meet the criteria of "clean", but again, I don't speak any French.

If "clean" isn't a consideration, I've also been enjoying the latest release from Rosalía (in Spanish), but I don't play that for my teenagers. 😳😂

Stromae has a Tiny Desk Concert that google will direct you to that you might enjoy.

Have you ever called that number?  I have tried calling numerous times and simpy get a busy signal.

Yup. And I tried just now and got through immediately. I doubt there is a real person at this hour, but maybe you can leave a number for a callback or have better options than you do online (I didn’t go through the system to find out).

No, there is no information given on how to speak to a person to check on things.  There is the "don't reply to this email because this address is unattended".  It does give a link to the website to log in and check on status.  It gives my renewal number, date, what I paid for, etc. and simply says "in process"--WHEN the site works; there are three separate times that I have tried logging in and the site simply is "just wait"--ball spinning (and I know it isn't my internet or computer because other sites will be working fine).  That is how messed up their system is.

You can definitely call and have someone move it along.  1-877-487-2778 That’s the number for the National Passport Information Center.

Yes!  I was at WF a couple of months ago or on my zest to find "pure" monk fruit with NO additives!  I can find maybe 1.5 oz or so (I think) on Amaz for $20 more or less. I was hoping to find the one ingredient sugar replacement locally and at a cheaper price.  As I looked at the options on the shelf an AA couple came in.  Husband was in a wheelchair and wife was walking/shopping.  We struck up a conversation and I told her that the monk fruit had erythritol as an additive/filler.  It's cheaper to buy the blend.  I do NOT know the ratio though.  Is it 90% MF and 10% ERY, or vice versa, or middle?  She was relieved to learn the filler fact up front as she quickly checked her resource on her phone or so and learned her husband is NOT to have that substance for the concern of possible health conditions stated.  I didn't buy it and neither did they.

    What does AA mean?
