  1. thanks monica! that is definately one way to control the clutter and the memories
  2. oh good - I don't feel so odd now about leaving it out! :p
  3. he is an avid reader! so much that I never thought I would say, as a parent, "Put that book down and please go play outside." "Leave the book here while you are walking the dogs" (nise in bookwhiloe walking 2 dogs" and so on.... And we do read alouds
  4. how do I attach a copy of my table? I would like to show you all what I have so far for a weekly lesson plan and then help me to figure out how to make a yearly plan.
  5. okay - is that the only part you do not do? we are going to use the lists this year in conjunction w/ spellingcity.com
  6. what do you do for this? Just a fun binder with dividers? We have random worksheets like find the difference, connectthe dots, etc that we do after circle time and then she has her mind-bender pages, math sheets, and so on. Need to make some changes from what I have done in the past and wished I had you all 6 years ago :)
  7. how do you figure out which stickers to order? we are doing 1850-present BUT there is info we have discussed and willcontinue to discuss for musicians and artists prior to our history dates.
  8. not a bad idea TwinMominTX! we could do this jsut after circle time with the littles when they break for their fun worksheets. this would get DS on track for the day at least.
  9. Do you have your DC do the writing section? I had thought that we would use create-a-story this year but am now wondering if this combined with the writing section might be too much for my reluctant writer (already going through WWE and outlining and summarizing). Thoughts? Suggestions? Ideas?
  10. Kash has been more than generous and has helped me more than she will ever know. THANK YOU KASH! :grouphug:
  11. I have winged it year after year with our goals stored in my brain  but with everything I want to do this year as well as having 2 childrenschooling I am feeling the need to be more organized. I am scared! :D I have no clue where to begin or how to do it. I read a thread recently where someone mentioned using a spiral notebook to do the planning. Would someone please hold my hand ;) I am a visual learner and just reading about planning is blowing my mind. To make matters worse, I am overwhelmed with thoughts of our move in April after we just arrived at our current duty station. I have dreams of finishing by the end of march  yeah have a chuckle at that one...but realistically we will end up taking about 4wks of I am guessing to move and get settled. HELP!!!!!!!
  12. do you print out 50 pages in advance? And where in the notebook do you stick these (and the president pages?)
  13. I am still going crazy over American History for DS as well as doing SOTW4 (we should be back at ancients by now but things got a little scrambled). I do not want to spend the money on MFW so I am looking for something else to supplement where need be.
  14. if your kiddos do and plan their own time just how do you do that? I am curious.
  15. how can I enhance his vocabulary? I was thinking of having him write down and look up words he doesn't understand in the literature/lessons that he reads. How would I enforce this? Do I have him come up with 10 words a week, keep a running list, just define, use in a sentence, etc?
  16. oh and patchfire, I am TulaneMama who emailed you about SOTW4 Lesson plans. ;)
  17. okay so would someo0ne brainstorm with me please? I too would like DS to take some initiative in trying to plan out his time and take ownership of his work. He is 10yo and a 5th grader and he will also be going to a People to People Worl Leadership Forum next summer and I want him to be aware of schedules and what not. I print out his weekly assignments via excel and then he crosses them off as he goes. We keep this prinout tacked up on the bulletin board so that we always know where it is and I can see at a quick glance what he has left to do. We are also trying something new this year where he has to do his work in a particular order so that we tackle what he finds most challenging early in the day and while I am available. So, how would one go about introducing a planner and putting it into action. He is also taking several Co-op classes so those he WILL need a planner for. and where do I get a planner that would hold 12+ courses?
  18. thank you for the reminder about the notecards for littles. I had forgotten that I had done that with DS! I need to make these for DD this year. I just made a "to do" row and then the second row was "completed" and we did this each day with velcro stickies on the back so that the pictures were always visible.
  19. thank you donna. it still seems like so much $$$. We willnot need the math as we are doing MUS. we have not done the explorers-1850 and that looks so good too. I thought abnout getting the read-alouds just for fun as DS is an avid reader. oh and yes, just one child, DS10, 5th grade
  20. if so, what was do they put in there? why do you use one? I have our weekly schedule posted on the bulletin board in our school room.
