  1. good to know. unfortunately the decision is still ridiculously difficult. we actually have a choice this time and always thought that we would automatically choose overseas, but things are different now...this is so very hard.
  2. specifically in Italy? do we follow our home of record (we are military) or the state we are residents of?
  3. okay I think i have everyone that messaged me, though I really feel like i am missing some people! dani3boys, angela&4boys, helena, JustGin and Lowke.... cards are going outt omorrow and later this week as DS is writing them a few a day. messages and ifo might be the same if you receive/ask for multiple cards  just a heads up!
  4. DS used to have wheat allergies and was GF for 7yrs...from infancy. He can eat gluten now, BUT is off of dairy...we have never seen a change in his behavior in regards to these foods, though there are definite behavioral changes with some foods and exhaustion. I guess what I am really asking is do we go for ADHD FIRST or look at Asperger's and who and where do we turn?
  5. Awesome! Thank you! We would LOVE to have cards from Australia! We have littles too but they enjoy adding to their own postcard book...it evens things out ;) I was posting for myself, not knowing how much of an interest there would be. I plan on doing this until we get gards from all of the US states and then some!!!! I think that if you would like to receive cards from others, post that you are interested and ask for ppl to send you their info. I hadn't really set this up as a swap. I am thinking now that maybe I shoudl have ;)
  6. okay 0 i think I have replied to everyone that sent me a PM. I will PM those I haven't seen a message from and if I left you off, please just let me know. Thanks again!!!
  7. Ds is doing Rosetta stone and some additional spanish worksheets. He is all of a sudden doing well and really taking off. I was thinking about finding someone to converse with him in Spanish. Has anyone ever done this? How much would you pay someone? How lonf would a session last? THere is a couple that lives a few houses down from us. The husband is in school with my husband. He and his wife are Puerto RiRican (I believe). Her English is poor and Spanish is her primary language. I was contemplating having my husband talking to her husband and see if we couldn't work out some sort of arrangement. I would love some advice.
  8. how much of these symptoms really do overlap? We had an evaluation for DS. It was determined that he is ADHD BUT we also filled out a GADS assessment and his score was well above the total of 80, suggesting that he does have Aspergers. We are not sure where to go from here. I have always felt that something was off with him but was never able to put my own finger on it. It has taken me years of seeking help and gettign people to listen to me and pay enough attention to him and his actions to see what where my opinion derives from. For know, I think that we are going to start him on meds for ADHD and see if how much he benefits from them and see if it changes anything in regards to the GADS scoring. Has anyone had experience with this?
  9. This sounds much like our DS. I posted another thread that I am interested in hearing your thoughts on.
  10. does this store well if I make it in a large quanttity to have on hand.
  11. We are studying the states this year and would love to collect postcards from all over the U.S. (but would also LOVE cards from other countries!) If you are interested please post and I will send you are mailing addy and we will happily send you cards back!
  12. Thank you. I think that I will look for this book at the library today. Here in MO, we are required to teach reading and have logged hours for it. The definition as to what reading constitutes is vague. So we have been reading different works, working on comprehension and so on, but I was looking for something to change it up a bit. Hence my recollection of once doing a newspaper assignment.
  13. i just have a side question for you. my dd (4) loves starfall, and I was wondering how you used it. Did they do it as they wanted to? Did you slot times for them?
  14. how would you classify some of the activities found here? http://www.carschooling.com/2008/11/do-it-yourself-carschooling-activity-book/ Would mazes be math? mad libs and word searches - language arts/grammar could creating a vacation memory book count towards a reading activity?
  15. is this at all possible? I have enjoyed following WTM with DS (now 10) but am anticipating DD needing something a bit more hands on and different as well as *I* would like something different to try with two little girlies whom I will be schooling next year.
  16. We are studying the states (in brief) as we receive postcards from across the U.S. I was wondering if anyone had some neat ideas for an easy project (for a 10yo boy) that might incorporate these cards. I was thinking of somehow using them on a display board??? We also have state flash cards that we are clipping to a piece of string as we study the states (hangs above a US map). Also, what about the presidents? We have presidential cars and I wouold like to display them somehow too...ideas?
  17. DS, 10, has recently been diagnosed. I have tried for years thinking that there was something I could do but I can't and thus he will be starting Concerta. I am praying that this will make our home like smoother and more peaceful. Yes? Just keeping him moving during the day with his schoolwork is a challenge and MY ideas of what HSing would be have greatly changed over the years. I am not really sure what the point of my post is other than I suppose I am a little scare, sad, upser, a whole barrel of emmotions. It has been challenging schooling a child like him. Always changing, always trying something new. That in and of itself is difficult for me. that is all. :)
  18. stacy, do you have them sit there with you while you correct it? DS is ADD and there is no way that he would sit quietly and wait on me  so I wonder what to do with him during that time or rather how to include him. And if it is sloppy do you erase it all and have them do it again right then? and if a lesson needs to be repeated and it is in a workbook, how do you approach that situation?
