  1. We use the Kindle for school. My 13yo uses it the most for reading and really likes it. HTH!
  2. I used to be much more active on the SL boards, but am finding now that my kids are getting older that I need more information on curriculum, college, etc. that I find over here. I mostly lurk here, so I haven't dived into this forum as much. To me, the SL forums are a little more social than I need at this time in my life :)
  3. I just don't understand how they can possibly get ahead? If the home is forclosed at some point, isn't a judgement filed against them for the shortfall between the loan amount and the sale amount? I thought that was why short sales were so popular. They talk about predatory lenders, what about the predatory lawyer? I know it is his job and all, but he is clearly gaming the system for his own profit... just like the mortgage brokers did. Shocking article; thanks for sharing
  4. I work from home full time. I'm very lucky as my mom lives with us and helps my kids with their schoolwork. My kids are 10 and 13. It is tough and you juggle a lot, but for my family it works. I hope this helps!
  5. testing to see if I can post... :)
  6. Yes; I was just able to access about 10 minutes ago...
  7. We put two Bosch dw's in our church kitchen and you really cannot hear them at all. We paid around $500 each as well and they are wonderful; very quiet, stainless interior and easy to care for. The only thing is there's no garbage grinder so you have to clean out a little basket trap, but it's super easy.
  8. We've used Horizons for grades 1-6 so far and LOVE it.
  9. Thanks, I'll take a look! I love SL, but the reading is just sooo hard to get in every day.
  10. Thanks so much for the feedback! I like your point about keeping SL but leaving out some of the fiction. I'll take a look at the Hakim series, thanks for the suggestion. I did plan to skip Core 5 next year, but I feel like I'm rapidly running out of years left, and we plan to continue through high school. Thanks again!
  11. I agree with everyone else, 42 is not too old! I am 43 and would LOVE another baby. Best wishes, whatever you decide :)
  12. We usually start in early August and go through mid to late June. I like to take a few weeks off in December as well as a couple weeks for spring break. When my kids were little I found it too hard to follow the PS calendar because it took my kids a while to get back in the groove.
  13. Hi - Starting off my first post with a request for advice :) My dd will be starting 7th grade next year and my son will be starting 4th. We've been using Sonlight and gone through Core 3 with Core 4 sitting here in the box - I'm undecided on using it next year! I'd like to move away from SL as the reading is just too intense for our lifestyle right now. I'm still debating keeping Core 4 and finishing up American History, but would love some input. Also, I'm thinking of incorporating either MOH or SOTW sooner rather than later. It looks like SOTW doesn't get added to the SL curriculum until Core 6. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!!
