Chrissy Tiegen is one of the many celebrities on QAnon's list of alleged pedophiles. When she and John Legend lost their baby recently, her instagram page was filled with horrible posts from people saying they were glad her baby died, she deserved it because she is a disgusting pedophile, they probably sold the baby to their Satanic friends for body parts, and all kinds of just incredibly mean and vicious stuff.

I find the combination of ignorance, gullibility, and downright nastiness truly terrifying. It's almost as if the whole QAnon thing is a test to see how many people can be convinced of truly batshit crazy accusations and how many would be willing to act against QAnon's targets.

Another weird thing about them coming for Chrissy Tiegen is that she has repeatedly pointed out if those fake flight logs were true then she was a victim because she would have been a minor. Those crazy conspiracy people don’t care and keep coming for her though. It’s the weirdest thing.

I don’t know anyone in my circles that believe that stuff but I with have a hard time remaining friends with someone who did. It’s so strange.

How did you come to know this story? (I’m not doubting it; I’m just curious from a family historian perspective.)

It was known within the family and my grandmother told my mom, and my mom told me.

ETA: It was always obvious that my grandmother and her siblings despised their dad but I never really understood why until my mom told me the story.

  3. The only abortion I know of out of everyone I’ve ever come into contact with is actually my great grandmother. She couldn’t handle any more kids but my POS great grandfather insisted. So, she tried to abort the baby herself since it wasn’t legal or easy and both her and the baby died (don’t really get what’s so pro life about that option and it will happen again if abortion is illegal). My grandmother’s life was hell until she could marry out from under her fathers thumb and thankfully the blame has always been on him and not her poor mother.

I hope we finally do make abortion safe and legal via legislation so hopefully there will be no future threat of making it illegal. I can’t imagine a single scenario that I myself would ever choose to have one but I don’t think anyone but mom and doctors should be making that call for others.

  4. We’ve always eaten early. When the kids were little, dh kept his work schedule 7a-3:30p so we would eat around 4:30pm and we’ve just always kept close to that. These days it’s usually 5-5:30pm. I don’t like eating later because I usually go to bed around 10 and I sleep much better having those hours of no food.

I think this is the real problem with what our system has turned into. Ideally, judges wouldn't be representing the interests of one party or the other. They should be fair interpreters of the law for everyone without regard to party. I need consistency not in their political purity but in how they decide cases. Presidents should have no personal or political benefit from appointing judges and I don't think the founders intended anyone to think of a justice as being "my justice" or "his justice."

I don't know how to change it other than maybe the professional ethics of judges requiring them to not give personal opinions. I don't think Senate hearings should be asking judges questions about their personal opinions. I know it's supposed to already be this way, but we all know it's not. Perhaps a solution could be that potential justices are submitted as candidates to the President by a bipartisan or nonpartisan group of their peers, and the President would choose who he or she wants from that neutral list out of respect to the country and to avoid any hint of partisanship. I don't think potential justices' race, sex, national origin, religion, sexual preference or political party affiliationshould influence their decisions.

Yes. All of my comments in here speak to the unfortunate reality of our situation. Justices should be apolitical but they are definitely not.

I really like the idea of a bipartisan committee that has to come to an agreement for nominees to go forward.

I think, as a nation, we need to do some deep soul searching about the norms that have been abandoned of late and work, intentionally, to close up some of these gaping holes. It behooves minority groups to participate in that process while they still have some clout. That may not always be the case.

I’m hopeful that there could be a series of commissions that study these issues and solicit public input on how best to ensure the orderly operations of our courts and Congress and administrative branch.

Everything from remote/proxy voting and deconfliction (personal finances and debt) to strengthening the emoluments clause should be on the table.

I feel like this administration has shined a light on the many, many gaping holes we do have. I wasn’t happy about the last election night but I remember thinking it would be ok because we have checks and balances. I was such a f***ing sucker! Never again, though.

  7. Did anyone see the debate last night? I know Pence has said he’s tested negative but he really looked like he had pink eye. We know pink eye can be a symptom of Covid and we know many in his inner circle have tested positive the past week. I would have been very uncomfortable being anywhere near that place.

I haven’t heard so far, but would not be surprised. I agree he seems to have something and there seems to have been a superspread CV19 situation so that CV19 seems likely.

A high up in Coast Guard was also positive in a news feed I saw .   I think once CV19 gets going in a group it tends to hit quite a few people. Idk if the Coast Guard person had overlap with Positive cases in White House or Legislature.

I’ve read there was an event INSIDE the White House (no masks and no distancing) the day AFTER the super spreader event for Gold Star families, so many military personnel were involved. It sounds like an absolute mess!

  9. I’ve only had the flu once, six years ago, but it was so awful that we get the shot every year now. We never had one prior to that. I permanently lost my taste and smell because of it so I’m not in a hurry to see what happens if I get it again.

I think there was also mingling before and after when people were talking face to face without masks, not just sitting side by side. Plus as others have mentioned, there were a number of indoor events too.

There’s also videos from the event and there was lots of hugging and cheek kissing - without masks, of course. I was honestly shocked. This was unlike any outdoor event I’ve been a part of or seen.

  11. Bagels and I agree on pretty much nothing on this board but even I think there are several people here who jump on her constantly, especially in regards to Covid. She has reached out to me when it was obvious I was going through something and seems genuinely kind. This board is weird these days and I’ve been here a while.

In regards to Covid and Trump - I’m struggling. He’s had zero compassion for what his policies and words have done to my family and I’m trying hard to find compassion now. I never wished illness on him but I’m pretty “meh” about him having it. I can not want anything bad to happen to him but also not twist myself into a pretzel if it does.

  12. In my dc’s college town there hasn’t been an issue of spread within dorms. The issue has been Greek houses. Most have already had it run through and the entire house was quarantined for two weeks.

They’re doing random testing every week (youngest has been tested twice already). The positivity rate has fallen the past two weeks thankfully. Positivity rate within Greek houses is now down to just over 3%. The university has their own dashboard that they update weekly. The county positivity rate also has started dropping again.

I honestly thought things were going to be much worse and am happy it seems to be going ok. Youngest has one three hour class on campus and dh and I have even felt comfortable enough to eat outdoors at restaurants there when we take dd. Then, we spend the rest of time walking around campus. Almost everyone is wearing masks even while walking around outside. It’s been nice.

  13. Yes, in that we never really had any so there weren’t many discussions.

I’ve worried that because of that I wouldn’t do a good job with my dc but they are both so frugal! I hear them both often say they have a purchase waiting but are going to sleep on it to see if they still want to spend the money tomorrow. They definitely seem more aware when it’s their own money (even if it’s money we’ve given them).

  14. My dad - miss him so much

My brother - miss him so much

My paternal grandmother - most influential person ever to me - would love to converse now as an adult with children

Martin Luther King, Jr. - so many stories - so much wisdom

Shakespeare - Is he real?  Is he many people?  Is he a she? So many questions! 🤣 He’s the comedic relief for a tough night!

  15. Our schools have been opened since the end of July and our numbers have remained pretty flat.  Our governor announced we move into stage 5 this weekend, which is pretty much everything can be opened at 100% capacity. I’m not sure what’s going on but numbers, hospitalizations, and deaths aren’t rising. They’re not really going down either but I’m surprised they’ve stayed flat.

  16. I’m worried too. I also don’t really understand those who act like nothing happening right now is a big deal. It is.

Honestly, politics has never felt so personal to me and what I see going on is disturbing. There are definitely many today who feel this country just doesn’t care about them. Both of my dc, who are part of the LGBTQ community, don’t feel like the current admin cares at all about them. My brother in law, who was literally ran out of his town by the KKK, definitely doesn’t feel like this country cares at all about him. It’s very personal for so many right now and I’ll admit it makes it difficult to just ignore. It seems that if it doesn’t affect people personally, that they just really don’t care at all.

On yard signs, we’re the only one in our entire neighborhood with a Biden sign. We had to install a Ring camera to end people taking it. It’s crazy!

  17. I have an 18 and 20 year old living at home right now and I really don’t require anything of them.

They do their own laundry and keep their shared bathroom as clean as they want it (I seriously never go in there so don’t keep track of how dirty it gets before they clean it 🤫).  I honestly rarely even step foot in their rooms upstairs so I have no idea what might be hiding but they look rather clean whenever I do pop in. Neither of them work but are full time college students (all online at the moment though). They help with things when asked and don’t complain about it. Ds has been helping dh with some home improvement stuff whenever he’s asked.

Mostly they just clean up after themselves and dh and I feel that’s enough. Dh and I would be doing the rest of the cleaning/chores whether or not they were living here and next fall neither will probably be here anyway.
