  1. I have a 6th grader, a 4th, a 2nd/3rd, and a K student. (plus a 4yo and 2yo, ACK!) The key to all of this is that all the kids have certain things that they know to do independently. While I'm cleaning up breakfast and getting ready myself, they know to be doing their chores and starting their independent work. I'm ready to start at 9:30am usually. I grab whoever appears to be goofing off the most, and I sit with them at the table and go over the work that they've done so far, and then do their math lesson. The other kids are to be working independently, theoretically. When I'm done with kid #1, I move on to whoever appears to be finished with their work or is having trouble or is goofing off. And I just work through all four kids like that through the morning. After lunch, we practice instruments one at a time with me supervising, then we read aloud for about 1-2 hours, then we do notebooking or narrations on what we read, and finish up any leftover table work. And after that, I am fried.
  2. For the Children's Sake.... Real Learning by Elizabeth Foss
  3. He clasps the crag with crooked hands Close to the sun in lonely lands, Ringed with the azure world he stands. The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls He watches from his mountain walls, And like a thunderbolt he falls.
  4. HWT Right Start B/Singapore 1A and 1B Explode the Code 1, 2, 3 Either SL LA1 or Alphaphonics Apologia Astronomy (tag along) Tag Along on SL's Core 3 with added in picture books Suzuki cello
  5. So you know, I see that you use it yourself, but you won't tell me. Thanks a lot! Excuse me for being such a bother!
  6. I would alternate read aloud days with math/phonics/handwriting days.
  7. I would absolutely give her a break from RS. You could use the time to just play some of the RS games, computer drill, Calculadder pages, ect.....Knockout (I got ours at a toy store) is a great math game if you have access to that. Especially since she hates math, I would use the next few weeks to try and mix it up a bit.
  8. My current 3rd grader is doing: SL Core 1+2 SL LA 2 advanced (with Wordly Wise 4, MCP Word Study D options) Spelling Workout Level D Right Start Math Level D Apologia Zoology 2 extra readers here and there violin sports year round (tomboy alert)
  9. I think it's cursive copywork, not writing lessons....We own it and have used it a few times - it's for upper elementary or middle school.
  10. It's in SL's Core 5 for 5th grade and above.....
  11. 3 SL cores (we're doing 6, 7, and 100) Apologia General and Physical Science for 7/8 (or possibly Rainbow) Pre-Algebra in 7; Algebra in 8 Private Music lessons There are so many LA things out there, and every kid is different, but we'll probably switch from SL LA with Grammar Ace to Analytical Grammar for 7 and 8. Add in sports, scouts, and hobbies and that would be it for my ds! I should add in Latin, but I just think he'd hate it. And we have full days of school as it is - I don't want to spread him too thin.
  12. I didn't read all of the replies, but here would be my picks.... MFW 1st grade is awesome! Phonics are very solid. Their blend ladder is genius. Right Start Math sorry, I know it's not one of the choices, but RS provides a great foundation for mental math and concepts. I've also used Singapore and I find RS to be meatier and more solid in the early years. And FUN, too! I have looked at WP, too, but I read too many negative reviews, and I don't trust their book selections as much. I've purchased some random things from them and too many didn't go over that well.
  13. I would LOVE to skip spelling, but unfortunately my kids aren't cooperating with that grate idea.
  14. I just knew someone would suggest Logic - I should look around at programs for that. And I know that waiting on foreign language is not ideal, but we do A LOT of music practice here, more than most people, so I'm looking at that as kind of a trade-off. There are only so many hours in a day! They will just have to be "average joes" in that area and get their high school credits to graduate and make do. Thanks for the ideas. I'm glad to hear that TT with ALEKS as a supplement would be a good combo....I just need to save my pennies now. Can you get the $40 per year deal as a private school (for ALEKS) in Ohio? (We are moving soon and I'm not totally familiar with the laws)
