Tapestry of Grace Year 1.. printed question.
Monica626 replied to Mynyel's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
My friend let me borrow U1 of Y1 to look over. All of the pages are in sheet protectors (2 pages to 1 sheet protector) and it totally fills a 3 in. binder. That includes everything from the main curriculum, for all levels. HTH! Monica -
Woo hooo! I am super jealous!! Your daughter is hilarious! Monica

You are getting me all excited (and impatient) to start our own year with Adventures in the Fall! Can't wait to hear how you like it. Monica

Ok, here's what I want...suggestions? long

Sounds like we're in the same boat! This year I tried SL Core K(A). If you are very discerning about what your kids are reading I don't recommend going in that direction. We got about 6 months into it and had to scrap it (though if you want to try it, I have a hardly used copy for sale, LOL!). They have some really excellent books and some very heavy books. While searching, I would recommend reading "Honey for a Child's Heart" and "The Read Alound Handbook" by Jim Trelease. Both books have extensive book lists for read-alouds and chapter books for children of all ages. They've been wonderful references for me as we try to find our 'right fit' in curriculum. HTH! We may be heading the path of MFW Adventures this coming year. Mainly because there will be a newborn in the house and I need something laid out (since I don't mind adding to, or taking away from it). Best of luck in your journey! This is why I spend copious amounts of time in the exhibit hall of our state convention. It helps me look through and physically see products I've been researching. Monica -
I'm not 100% sure. They added some extra pages and co-ordinated more things (like math pages to correlate with the Science and letter of the week). I think they added more activities, a bigger book list, change the music CD. Things like that. The web site could probably fill you in better. Or, you can always call MFW. They've always been really wonderful at answering all my questions. Monica

How fun! I am planning to start MFW K with my daughter this Fall. Right now, I am in the process of switiching my oldest son to MFW 1st, after trying SL Core A. My oldest three are very close in age, just turned 7, 5 and 4. MFW 1st looked like so much fun, I didn't want to miss out on the full experience. Once we've finished with MFW 1st, DS #1 will move on to Adventures and I'll have one in MFW K, 1st and Adv. Can't wait to hear how you like the re-vamped MFW K! Make sure to update on how it's going. GAH!!! When you love a curriculum...BUT
Monica626 replied to Mommyfaithe's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Oh my goodness, I am so there! My first three are 7, 5 and 4. They're 18 months and 14 months apart, respectively. My oldest, like me, would be happy to do SL-type of curriculum all day, reading and discussing literature. Heaven help me the younger two can't do anything without moving. I am having to scrap SL K(A) mid-year because I cannot take the naughtiness that occurs during school. I have to switch to something more engaging. God definitely gave me #2 and #3 to humble me and remind me that I will probably never have this figured out. LOL! Hope you're able to find what clicks! Monica -
Something I wish I'd done more of when my oldest was in K last year, was reading from a high quality reading list. Not necessarily for information, but just to enjoy books together (and any activities the readings might spawn). I've been reading through "Honey for a Child's Heart" and plan on reading through "The Read Aloud Handbook" next. The each have really amazing reading lists for a wide range of ages and types of books. I hope to build a solid, good quality personal library, to jump-start my kids into being self-motivated learners. Monica PS I love your picks. OPGTR and ETC have worked so well together for us.

This has been my greatest challenge, finding a consistent week. I stupidly agreed to help be on leadership for the mom's group at my church. Right now, we do either Tu-F, if it's a mom's group week, or M-Th if it's not. Once or twice a month DH has to work Saturday, so I'm going to start using those as catch up/get ahead days (who am I kidding, they'll just be for catch up). Next year I plan to totally get my schedule down to the bare necessities. It's going to be painful, but I think we all need one year of disciplined learning and schooling. Monica

? for sonlight users -- DVD for science ??
Monica626 replied to momma aimee's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I agree, you do not need the CDs. I'm actually trying to sell my never used SL Science 1A. If you need it at a discount, let me know. The only problem is with my TM which is missing one week due to a run-in with a Toddler Tornado. Otherwise, I have the DVD, all the books, all the supplies, etc. We never went past week 3, so it's almost all totally untouched. HTH. Monica -
OOOOoooo! I am SO jealous. I live in CA and have not received my catalog yet. On top of my impatient-ness, we moved three weeks ago and I can't find my old catalog. My obsessing and brooding has nowhere to turn! Out of curiosity, for those of you who have already received the catalog, where do you live? Maybe I can metally track where mine is right now. At least it would give me something to do. Right?! I'm just hoping I changed my address in time to have it sent to my new home, instead of it getting re-routed through my old address. YAY! Glad to hear someone likes it! Monica

Thanks for your responses. For my own sanity, I really need something that is straightforward. This year I'll have a 1st grader, K'er and next year I'll have three between K and 2nd. I wanted to be able to buy everything through SL for sanity's sake. Thanks for the input. Monica
