I wasn't going to talk politics any more, but...

If I gave offense you have my most sincere apologies, that was not the intent.

Perhaps the issue of Marxism strikes a sore nerve, I have spent too long overseas and seen too much of the horror that Marxism has delivered to ever have anything but absolute loathing for that particular view.

You didn't offend ME, I'm an Independent. I just thought you'd like to know, such as if you were speaking against Independents, you might want to know there were those of us on the board who don't mind getting skewered in the butt sitting on the fence watching both sides.

The Marxism didn't strike a nerve. It was just not correct, it is an idea. It isn't evil until a government uses it for evil purposes. Marxism itself is not evil.

It can be used like Stalin and Mao or it can be like the Eurosocialism like one sees in some European countries today.

With all due respect, Pam SFSOM, I don't think that this is the typical American college experience, therefore, not relevant to pqr's argument. I know it was the polar opposite to my college experience, and everyone else that I knew. But then, I'm from the Left Coast.

I'm just saying that Sen. Obama wrote this about his college experience. Do you hold every single belief and practice that you did in college? Perhaps you do, and I'm off base here. But I don't, and my point was that perhaps, just perhaps, Sen. Obama is describing his college days. Just as I was describing mine.

Perhaps I am mistaken about that. We are, as Mrs. M said, lacking context. Or was it Sis? Well, one of my partners in crime, anyhow.

I see no need for outrage. It is what Obama said, he is entitled to his opinion.

Do I appear outraged? I'm not outraged, I annoyed and a teeny bit (watch for that lightening bolt, folks!) sarcastic. I haven't the energy for outrage.

It is certainly his opinion about what Sen. Obama said. And this is my opinion of his opinion.

You are going to have to provide a citation for someone being a Marxist. I didn't see anything in that quote about anyone hanging out with Marxist professors now.

Of course he is not going to be hanging out with Marxists now. He is trying to get elected President of a center right country. However, 1995-99 is not so long ago. I don't have a citation, but a simple "Ayers/Obama" google search should give you all the citations you need.

Just as fundamentalist Christianity is not evil. But when wielded like a sword by persons who desire power over others, it can be used for evil.

Obama said that his grandmother is the typical white woman. He said that she reacts negatively to someone just because of the color of his skin. Then, Pqr said that Obama is saying that the typical white person is racist. In order for her to be misrepresenting his statement, then reacting negatively to someone based solely on skin color is not racism. Is that what you are saying. I, personally, believe that it is racism. I would hate for someone to have such a reaction to me. Therefore, I agree, Obama was saying that the typical white person (exemplified by his grandmother) is racist. I see no need for outrage. It is what Obama said, he is entitled to his opinion.

No, it is prejudiced not racist. Racism entails intent IMO.

I feel everyone is prejudiced to an extent, not just white people.

For instance, I am not white, but most people assume they are talking with a white person on a board like this. That might be prejudiced...but it isn't racist.

Any Democrat in Chicago is going to have a tenuous link to Ayers. He's too big in politics. Calling him a friend of Obama's is stretching the truth at best.

Sorry. That dog don't hunt.

And if there's a smoking gun about Mr. Ayers that I don't know about, please link it. Telling me to find my own source material to prove your assertion doesn't move me to action.

Plus I'm supposed to be in class in 25 mins and I haven't a) had supper or b) washed my hair.

Ahhhhh!!!!!

There are plenty more. This was just the first one I came upon, but sorry, I'm not going to spend my time cutting and pasting.

About the "outrage", I don't think I was responding to you Pam. I think it was someone else. I'm just too dumb to know how to add the "so and so says" part to the quote

He chaired Ayer's Annenberg Challenge Committee. Ayers sponsored his "political debut." I think these are more than tenuous links. Nobody is saying that they watch football together. But Obama has definitely been tied politically to a known terrorist. Ok, everyone throw stones at me for calling Ayers a terrorist. If you want links, give me a few seconds to get them.
