Scuff
Has anyone done this? We're getting worn out on everything. I'm considering just making a list of the books for a time period, letting them read what they want, and then doing some sort of project of their choosing on whatever about that time period. We're doing year 4, so we'd be doing 1900-present. Part of me thinks they'd enjoy it more, since they could follow their interests and rabbit trails, instead of just checking off the list of books to read. But, I'm also concerned that we're going to miss the deeper connections and whatnot by not following the accountability questions and guided discussions. Thoughts? maize
Reading the books is all we have ever done. Pre high school, I really think it is all that is needed.
momacacia
It seems if you wanted to do that something like All Through the Ages would be suitable and the TOG investment not really necessary. You're just really wanting a booklist.
Scuff
Glad I'm not the only one! Reading is all we end up doing, though I do start out planning more! ok :) And, moma, that book looks great. I've already bought all 4 levels of TOG, though. :/
blessed3x
I appreciate the discussions and connections that ToG brings. I have All Through the Ages and it is a great resource for Alternatives to ToG , but I would not replace it. We are doing Y3 and ds is in the 7th grade though, so I am preparing for high school.
