MomOfABunch
Ok, I think I'm ready to get the Lips program for DD. If you've used it, can you tell me about your experience? How have you used it? How long do you typically do this program a day? What has the progress been? TIA!

Love_to_Read
I'm hoping to hear responses as well. I did purchase the manual when I saw a good deal on a used copy, figuring it would be hard to find again. So, I own it, but I was hoping to read through it this summer before making a final decision on whether/how to implement it.
OneStepAtATime
Hoping someone else will respond. My mom bought the whole package when she tutored my son and I've been just incorporating a bit of review since then. I don't really know what is absolutely necessary and what you can skip. Bumping, though, in case someone else can weigh in with more knowledge.
PeterPan
I'm sorry, we've had tons of threads on this, and my FIL is in hospice, meaning I'm too busy. You can google search the boards by doing a site search. Try entering "what do I need for LIPS site:welltrainedmind.com" and the threads pop up. what do i need for lips site:welltrainedmind.com
mellifera33
We use LiPS, but I'm not sure how helpful I will be because my son uses it backwards. lol We did it by the book for the first few months and got frustrated, so we use it a bit differently now. I bought the manual and a big magnetic whiteboard, then copied the mouth pics and letter tiles from the manual, laminated them, and put magnets on the back. We use some generic colored tiles we had already for the colored squares. We probably spend about 35-45 minutes a day on LiPS, in one or two sessions. My son can do one long session because there are so many different activites to do in each session--matching letters to mouth pics, labeling sounds given orally or with letters, sequencing consonant sounds with pics, colors, or letters, building word chains with pics, colors, or letters, reading word chains, etc. When he starts getting squirrelly with one activity, we can switch to the next thing. P likes to talk, so the back-and-forth as we figure things out keeps him engaged.
ssavings
We're using it. Only a few weeks in, and DD has poor memory, so we're still finishing up consonant sounds. I bought the manual, the fold-able magnetic whiteboard (yes, pricey, but we have a tiny house and is very handy), and the lips magnets. I make word documents with the letters, the vowels, and the small and large colored squares. Had them printed and laminated at Office Depot, then cut them up and superglued magnets to the back. Total cost about $15 and took about an hour. Used a hand-mirror I had in my makeup kit. When we need syllables, I'll make and print those, too. Saved a few hundred bucks doing it that way. :)
MomOfABunch
It is helpful to know how you all got started and what pieces of the kit you use.
merry gardens
We started with LiPS after my son failed the Barton screen. I had already purchased Barton level 1, so we only used LiPS up to where Barton recommended, (I think recognizing a string of CVC). I bought manual, felts and lip pictures, plus the training dvd on Vowels and the vowel circle I made some of the materials with a copier, cardstock and a few of those sticky laminating sheets that don't require a machine. (My old manual's copywrite allowed such printing.) Oh, and we used a tabletop magnified mirror (that I'd previously used for applying make-up) so he could look at his own lips and mouth. I read and studied and watched the dvd. The parts we used, like learning "brothers", were largely scripted. It wasn't as scripted as Barton. I was grateful to switch to Barton when he'd gotten far enough, as the later parts of LiPS are less scripted and some of the materials over-lap between the later parts of LiPS and the early levels of Barton. I used LiPS first for my son who was 3rd grade age at the time. I later used it with my daughter for pre-school/ kindergarten before later moving to Barton. While DD's struggles weren't as severe as her brother's, since she was younger it took more time. Plus, for her it served as a bit of speech therapy as it helped me to teach her how to make one sound she hadn't learned to make yet. My dd is now 9 and has only has vague recollection of which consonants pair up as "brothers" (but I remind her from time to time now.) I found the information in LiPS very interesting.
