lisabees
My fifth grade dd has suddenly become enamored with realistic fiction. She is a strong reader and I just don't know which realistic novels are written well. Ideas?
Haiku
My dd loves My Side of the Mountain.
Farrar
Absolutely everything by Wendy Mass! Start with the birthdays series - light and fun. Head toward Every Soul a Star and A Mango Shaped Space. Other good books... Counting By Sevens Absolutely Normal Chaos Rules Stargirl Umbrella Summer Flipped Out of My Mind Close to Famous If she'll include historical fiction, there's more options as well... Chrysalis Academy
I have never been steered wrong by either Farar or Lori D, and those are both great lists! I'll just add a couple of things dd has loved: When You Reach Me - Rebecca Stead Wendy Mass, for sure! anything by her The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate other books by Koningsburg - The View from Saturday was another favorite here
Haiku
Oh, yeah, my dd really liked Out of My Mind, too. She read it in book club a few years ago. I read it, too. Good book! My dd also suggests Hoot by Carl Hiaasen, and my son (who is 11) recommends Bud, Not Buddy. When I was around that age I really liked a book called The Endless Steppe about a Polish girl deported to Siberia during WWII. There's also Caddie Woodlawn, Harriet the Spy, Frindle, Lily's Crossing, Belle Prater's Boy, or The Wheel on the School. Hope these help.
