AmyontheFarm
Hi, I'm looking for suggestions for grade 7-8 co-op classes. The emphasis on this co-op is FUN and being with friends, not academic endeavors. So, what would you suggest? Thanks, Amy
freesia
Mmmm. Our co-op at that level does have an academic bent but some of the things we have done are fun. LOL We have gym, art, music. Next year we are doing drama at that level. We have had speech and are now doing Mock Trial. Prufrock press has some interesting Crime Scene Detective type units. Ellen McHenry Science units, while academic, are also really fun. They are written for co-ops.
Meriwether
Ellen McHenry's Mapping the World with Art? Art of Argument could spark a lot of fun discussion.

catz
My son is having great fun this year in a co-op video production class. The first part of the year they did a public service announcement, and a documentary. The 2nd part they did movie pitches for short films, wrote screen plays, voted on one screenplay, and are now filming it. Interested movies got a chance to act in a film too. The age range for this class was 7-12. ETA. We signed up for this class for fun, but he's also got a ton out o it academically.
TeenagerMom
Our classes at co-op for older kids this Spring are Critical thinking & Team Building skills, Poetry, Praise Band, Tie dying, and Acting. I am teaching a Mythbusters class for up to 7th grade and have several older kids/teens fussing at me because they want one for the Jr & Sr High! Is there a specific book you are using for Mythbusters? I could see myself having fun with that. I'm the annoying person on facebook explaining to people what snopes.com is and how they can look less silly if they would just investigate for 10 seconds before posting junk on facebook. Of course, I don't say it like that!

Of course, I don't say it like that! I did peruse the Mythbusters Science Fair project book beforehand and decided on simple, easy myths that could be confirmed or busted in 45 minutes. We discuss what Myth we will be testing, do the experiment, decide if it's confirmed or busted for us, and then watch the Mythbusters episode (usually just fast forwarding to the specific myth). I downloaded the episodes from Google Play to our tablets and they watch on there. http://www.amazon.com/Mythbusters-Science-Fair-Samantha-Margles/dp/0545237459
