Faithr
Is there a good resource to give my 15 yo on the great battles of the ancient world? Anybody have any recommendations? Thanks!
Dee in MI
It isn't limited to ancients, but I've liked The Battle 100. I picked it up in the discount section at Barnes and Noble last year. It could be a good summer read.
Nicole M
There is a set of Teaching Company video lectures that may interest your student, Great Battles of the Ancient World. My boys have watched them several times over, just for fun. Garrett Fagan is excellent. You can see the lecture titles here if you scroll down and look on the left column: http://www.teach12.com/ttcx/coursedesclong2.aspx?cid=3757 If your library does not have these, you may be able to get them on inter-library loan. They also go on sale periodically.

Nicole M
I second these. Rather, my son would second these. :D Battles do not interest me, but I was captivated by Professor Fagan's very tiny stutter with the "h" sound, which left me on the edge of my seat every time he had to spit out "Herodotus," which, as you can imagine, happened fairly often. mcconnellboys
We've used this book, too, and there are some others out that also highlight important battles. Here's one top ten list for you (but others might disagree): http://listverse.com/2008/07/31/10-most-decisive-ancient-battles/ For me, the absence of Thermopylae on that list makes it lacking..... http://www.battle-of-thermopylae.eu/

Susan C.
Caesar's Gallic War by Olivia Coolidge My son didn't like it, but he doesn't like battle books..... I'd sell mine, but I will hang on to it until he finishes his Ancient History class at college in the fall. It is under Ancient at bfbooks.com
