My thrift store Romertopf cooker smells suspiciously flowery

Recommended Posts

I would soak it in water with baking soda or vinegar (if the vinegar won't hurt the clay), and just let it soak for a long time, and then change the water and let it soak more.

:iagree:

That's exacty what I was thinking.

Just DO NOT use detergent or soap.

You might even try making a paste out of baking soda and letting that sit on there a while.

Yup, I second the baking soda recommendation. I got an old Pampered chef stone from my mother-in-law long long ago, and not knowing what I was doing, I washed it with strong smelling dish soap and all my cookies tasted of perfume. I made a thick baking soda paste and let it soak into the stone. Worked like a charm. I just made pizza on that stone tonight.
