Sparrows-Song
If you had to choose between "A Place in the Sun" by Jill Rubalcaba and "The Golden Goblet" by Eloise McGraw for literature for 2 boys ages 10 and 13, which would it be and why? This is for a Christian homeschool family. Thanks!
Sunshyne
My DS, 10, LOVED Golden Goblet. He said it was one of the best books he's read in a long time. I also have "A Place in the Sun," but we didn't get around to it, as he is reading " Tales of Ancient Egypt" now. A Place in the Sun looks a bit easy for that age, but I'm sure it wouldn't make a huge difference in the long run. :)
MamaT
We haven't read A Place in the Sun, but all four of my boys loved, loved The Golden Goblet.
Melmc
We finished reading The Golden Goblet a little while ago. It was our family read aloud. I've never read the other book, but The Golden Goblet has two boy characters that really appealed to my kids. It's a great story.
blessed2fosteradopt
Another vote for Golden Goblet (although we have not read the other). We are at chapter 10 right now and both of us are loving it. This is a child who does not like reading at all and he (age 10) keeps asking for more, so for me, that says a lot. Blessings, Lisa
FlockOfSillies
My 9yo dd flew through it in a day or so. The Golden Goblet is much longer. My dd enjoyed that one as well. I think it will be a better fit, especially for your 13yo.
KristineinKS
I've never read "A Place in the Sun," but we absolutely LOVED "The Golden Goblet" -- so many times my boys begged me to keep reading because they had to know what happened next. It also packs in a lot of great information about Thebes & Egyptian life.

Sunkirst
The language and story of Place in the Sun was very simplistic, and my kids didn't really like it too much. In contrast we loved Golden Goblet so much that I also read Mara, Daughter of the Nile, and my ds asked for his own copies of both as Christmas gifts.
