Saw the Dr and got a script for ADHD meds

Recommended Posts

He basically left it up to us to decide, but I have a script for Concerta. Any info on this drug that I should be aware of? I am almost afraid to google. :glare: He did say there is a slight chance of an increase in seizures with this but that he wasn't concered because the risk is so small. Not sure what to think.

My ds has done well on Concerta. That's a blessing given the awful reaction he'd had to Focalin (and I'm not saying anything bad about Focalin -- just that it won't work for MY ds). With any medication, I'd watch your ds closely for a while. Most negative reactions to ADHD meds are rare. My ds just picks at his lunch, so I make sure he has plenty to eat for dinner and later snacking.

I have a close friend whose ds is on concerta. He says it makes him feel like himself. They've used it for several years and are happy with the results. Once every few months they give him a day off and are reminded how well it is working for him. Good luck with your decision.

You didn't mention a dosage. Keep in mind most doctors start on a low dosage and you may have to go to a higher one. That always sounded scary to me, but I have seen the benefits in our children. Also, as others have said, keep track of time you give the medicine, time you see a difference, time you see it wearing off. If you don't see an improvement in a few days, two weeks at the most, contact your doctor for another dosage or different medicine. I have made the mistake of waiting too long.

Blessings to you on this journey.
