Horse Owners, Are There Forums?

Recommended Posts

We just bought our first horse, and I am looking for a Well-Trained Mind-type place to go for information, ideas, etc. Is there such a thing?

She is for my daughter; an Appendix Quarter Horse (not my daughter, of course!) She's 5, calm, easy-going (again, not our daughter!) and we're thinking this is going to be fun! (Of course, you are welcome to try to disillusion us! :)

Okay, first, let me say I am very opinionated when it comes to horses...we bought our first two horses last year and (Tennessee Walker, reg. Paint..though she's really a sorrell pretending to be a paint! :))...I had spent 2 years...2 hours a week at a barn with 60 horses...I was able to see A LOT! I have read probably 50 books in the past 3 years and have found a niche where my personality and the way I deal with horses rests....we have chosen natural horsemanship...I don't care if you call it Reese, Parelli, Lyons, or any of the rest..I just like what they say and their philosophy gels with mine...so first, I'd like to know what you want to do with this horse..are you going to train it? B/c several of the sites I might suggest will be more bent on natural horsemanship....so I don't want to steer you there unless that interests you...but for overall general horse care/questions and forums that have some really awesome horse people..

I'd go with

http://www.horsegroomingsupplies.com/horse-forums/

www.horseville.com (go to their forums)

Heck, I'll go in and throw in one of my favorite q&a sites...she is all natural! :)

http://www.naturalhorsetraining.com/TrainingTips.html

She's just got some great horse sense all around, natural or not!

There you should find some good stuff...and be consistent with the horse, the horse doesn't care how much you know before he knows how much you care!!! :) Love that quote!! :) CONGRATS on a new journey!!

Check out http://www.horse.com They have forums.

Then http://www.horseforum.com

If you can get to some horse clinics that is a great way to learn as well. I also have RFD-TV and have learned a lot from various trainers on there---as well as what I like and don't like.

The BEST thing though is to link up with a local riding instructor and other local horse people that can give you some in person help.

There are lots of horse forums. I'm on the Chronicles of the Horse Forum and the Parelli Savvy Club Forum. The first is for rather serious equestrians, lots of professionals, and mostly English riders. The second is subscription only and only for people who are studying the Parelli method.

I'll be interested to follow some of the links you get here. I'm not sure I've found the right horse board home yet.
