footballmom
If your teen son was dx’d with hyperthyroidism in their teens, would you be willing to share their symptoms and the process for getting diagnosed correctly? There’s an upcoming GP appointment that I want to support my teen towards exploring this possibility. TIA!

JenneinCA
Not a teen boy, but I accidentally ended up with hyperthyroid after a medication problem. The symptoms were things like my hands shook all the time, my heart rate was way high, blood pressure was high too, and I was anxious and felt like I was always trying to panic. It wasn’t hard to test, just a blood test. But it took a good month to get back to a level that wasn’t causing problems. I hope your teenager gets the help he needs.
kbutton
My son had some hyperthyroid labs at one point, but it seems to be a one off. They said someone can be hyper on their way to be hypo.
Dianthus
Aside from symptoms listed, diarrhea can be a side effect of hyperthyroidism. Also exhaustion because the heart is overworked. Unusually hot. Brain fog. Difficulty sleeping. Jumping out of skin feeling. Tremor was listed above but can cause things like poor handwriting and fine motor skill loss. Not sure about teen boy specific symptoms.

footballmom
Thank you everyone for the responses - you’ve touched on many of the symptoms he is having. Super helpful to confirm which blood tests we will need to advocate for. When I thought my thyroid was hypo, I remember being to.d many doctors only run one test when really more expanded testing is needed. I want to make the most of this appointment,

They look for specific antibodies.
