Art of Poetry

From CAP? I used this with my graduates before the DVDs existed. I LOVED it and absolutely kept it to use with my younger kids.

I don't remember weeks. It's not something we used everyday.

I wouldn't use it with the rising sixth grader in my house. I would with my book dragon 8th grader. I don't think the work would be too hard for the 6th, but that he'd simply get much more out of it when he's older and has more life experience. I mostly used it with high schoolers. We shared one text and took turns reading from it.

I haven't used it yet, but plan to next year with 9th and 5th. We will not use it anywhere close to as written 😬

We will use it as part of our morning basket - daily small bites all dine orally. It might get too deep for them at their ages, but we've done a fair bit of poetry appreciation and I think this is the next logical step.

This is brilliant!

I'm using this book with ds10 (also called The Grammar of Poetry, but it must be a different book than the one you're referencing):

https://www.christianbook.com/grammar-of-poetry-matt-whitling/9781591281191/pd/281191?en=google&event=SHOP&kw=homeschool-0-20|281191&p=1179710&utm_source=google&kw=&mt=&dv=m&event=PPCSRC&p=1018818&gclid=Cj0KCQjwjN-SBhCkARIsACsrBz4QEZHE2t43T1gz-b_hO5l0Hlg5HrRMCHdgn7xu-Gnqe27GoHwj888aAhonEALw_wcB

We're about 1/4 of the way through and will continue using it next year. He enjoys it-especially when he can write silly poetry.

I plan to use this in high school as I read there is very mature content. How is this going? Are you using it as your sole writing curriculum, or is it a fun supplement?

It's a fun supplement since we finished our grammar curriculum early. Mature content? Hmm...we're only in lesson 9 of 30, but nothing mature thus far-but I'll be on special lookout now. The last lesson we did was really helpful for his piano rhythm (it was on finding accented and unaccented syllables). So far it's been really good and not too difficult. Christian book recommends age group 6th-9th grade. It's definitely not one I can just hand him to do independently.

How long does this take in weeks? Would I be a fool to attempt it in 6th? Are the DVDs helpful or simply time consuming? What else do I need to know?

I plan to use Grammar of Poetry in the upper high school years.

Having used both, I suggest reversing the order in which you plan on using the two different poetry resources (i.e., Grammar of Poetry for grades 6-9; Art of Poetry for grades 7-12). Each are a one-semester course in high school.

Also, Scholé Academy offers a new online course for AoP. Their syllabus is currently posted and may help with getting an idea about scheduling: https://scholeacademy.com/the-art-of-poetry/
