countrymum
I'm going to try apples and pears that 8filltheheart recommended for a possible dyslexic, definatly spelling struggler boy. However, he has a younger sis (7) who is more of a natural speller than he is, but is not great. She reads beautifully(has for well over a year) and can memorize for a test well, but her spelling is probably not great, but I'm not really concerned at 7. For her would you suggest; Ignoring spelling till next year Doing apples and pears with brother (not worried about compitation here they know each others stregnths and get along well and combining is good as there are 2 younger ones) Getting How to teach spelling for her (just the manual or the workbook too) Finishing up Rod and staff grade 2 from last year (it's easy for her, but I'm not sure if it does any good) Edited September 21, 2020 by countrymum
lulalu
We have really liked Rod and Staff. Maybe go up a year? It is so well priced too. It does a good job of working on rules during the week and can be done independently. For a good speller I think it is a great way to be sure and cover all the rules and common words. 8filltheheart
You could try A&P. I used it with one of my kids who wasn't as poor of a speller as her siblings, but still wasn't a natural speller. At 7 A&P wouldn't be a bad choice. If you find that she can progress more quickly to more difficult words, switching in the next couple of yrs so won't be a major detriment long term. SHe will have had a strong foundation from A&P. Monica_in_Switzerland
I have combined my two oldest and two youngest for spelling, so I only run two classes of spelling. It had not caused any issues.
