Non toxic mattress recommendations? (Update-purchase made)

You can solve your problem immediately if you put down foil. Put down something else (plastic sheeting, whatever you've got) first so it doesn't soil the mattress, and then put down more plastic, a blanket, mattress pad, whatever. For me, that's enough that, so long as I replace it regularly, I can sleep on any mattress. I also take foil with me when I travel.

I used to use supposedly nontoxic beds. The organic cotton reeks, the wool is allergenic, and the natural latex is either contaminated with petro latex or still just gives me problems anyway. We currently sleep on a king size toxic bed because my dh decided he just wanted to be COMFORTABLE. What I want to do is replace out the top mattress with two twin XLs. That way I can have a cotton innerspring (no wool) on my side and he can have whatever foam regular junk he likes on his. If you sleep with someone else, it's something to consider.

You can occasionally find mattress dealers who carry these natural, no flame retardant, organic cotton, etc. mattresses, so you can see for yourself tolerability.
