seaben
I'm looking for a US History Textbook or equivalent that would work well for an 8th grader. I'm probably already going to get Zinn's People's History so I want a second book that makes a good counterpoint perspective.
EKS
We used K12's American Odyssey. It is coherent and interesting. I looked far and wide for something at the college level that was better and couldn't find anything. We also used the Zinn book. I would say that AO provides a balanced mainstream perspective, rather than a true counterpoint to Zinn. I used AO twice, once with a 2e 14yo and once with an HG+ 12yo. CLEs Changing Frontiers is supposed to be great and is for 8th grade. I'm looking for something secular.
mathnerd
Does a “standard” textbook help? Here is a link for History Alive that various local private schools (secular ones) in my area use: https://www.teachtci.com/social-studies/middle-school-social-studies/ you can buy the online subscription for these at a cheap price. Another option is the older editions of these books that are easily available on abebooks or eBay. student edition of us history book is listed here: https://shop.teachtci.com/social-studies/ss-ms/usi/usi-2017 Edited September 13, 2019 by mathnerd
