King Alfred Academy
I am thinking about getting ds7 some videos/dvds that teach him how to draw. He spends hours a day drawing (when he isn't reading!) and know that we would appreciate some instruction. What have you used that has worked? What programs have you heard of that I can look into? I have checked out Mark Kistler's Imagination Station but the DVD are way to expensive for us. The online drawing course is within budget, but unfortunately, I can not count on my computer or internet connection. I will probably get ds Mark Kistler's Draw Squad book...DH and I remember watching him and learning from him when we were little! Commander Mark! So, do you have any suggestions? Thanks! :001_smile:
JenniferB
We've used Atelier art this year. http://www.homeschoolart.com/ It's a DVD set that comes with a teacher's binder, and optional art appreciation cards. We didn't buy the cards. The DVD's are really neat because it shows children in a classroom doing the projects. So, your son can see that there are many ways that a particular project can turn out, and look in the end. It has nice calming music in the background, and an instructor who introduces the project, walks you through it step by step, then it shows the children doing each step, then it shows all the different finished pieces. My children love when we do these projects. Once we've done one together, then I tell them they are free to do the project on their own as many times as they want. They have done some of the projects over and over, about 20 + times. However, this is not exclusively drawing. There is some painting, and some cutting/glueing type projects. I bought the easiest one, which is very pre-school/kindergarten ish, but there are higher levels that have more complex projects, and older children to watch. Even the easiest one, though, I used with all my children ages 3-9, and my 9 yr. old's end result just looks more mature than my 3 yr old's (of course), but the projects, even on the easiest level, are OK for a wide range of ages.
